View Full Version : My all time favorite

A Dead Man Walk has to be my all time favorite move. Some call it low and dirty, some call it cheating. My opinion is that if it is legal, use it. There is nothing better than to see somebody's face after you shot them. Their first words are usually "I thought you were hit". There are several ways to do the dead man walk effectively, and it is up to the one doing it to add their own personal style. Right before I do a dead man walk I duck behind my bunker quickly, wait a while, and slowly emerge from the other side. Don't make any sudden movements. I personally like to pick up any tubes I have laying around me (like I am gathering my stuff to leave) and hold them in my non shooting hand. Let your gun hang low, and make sure not to say hit or raise your hand. The best bet is to hang your head low, mumble some things to yourself, and maybe even look a little pissed that you got hit. After you get out in the open and the balls aren't hitting you, then you are usually safe. If someone shoots at you, head for cover cause they are on to you. Otherwise walk toward the tape line slowly yet deliberately. Follow the tape line up until you see someone (still playing like you are hit) before you shoot them look for other players and a bunker to run to. When you do finally decide to shoot, hit them on something hard, a pack, a gun, or the mask. Chances are they will be shocked and it will take a while for them to realize you just got them. If you are good you might be able to get a couple people out before blowing your cover. While some think it is a low move, it sure is quite effective when done right. I wouldn't, however, use this in rec ball...i reserve it for tourneys only.

Very Sneaky Mr. Monkey ... but if you call yourself out, aren't you out?

According to NPPL rules (and I am sure others) if you call yourself "OUT", "HIT", or something like that, Raise your hand, gun, or give any other obvious sign that you are hit, then you are eliminated. It is a fine line you have to play... I had a bad experience with a dead man walk that I was doing once, but to spare you a long story and me getting pissed again, I will not share it here :)

i think the most vital thing is to walk relaxed, and maybe carry the gun in a kinda low-slung kinda way... to act like you are disappointed

I'm hitting the field tomorrow morning, I'll have to try it ... if the Refs get PO'd at me, I'll refer them to this thread. ;)

After talking with some players who've tried it at the field I play at, I decided against it. Seems the refs get very irritated at players who try it. Maybe at another field.

Shoot First .. Ask Question Later...
Make sure he's really out... :)

that might be the only "bad" thing about the walk ... experienced players may not fall for it.

At a 24 hour game I was at a few months ago there was a group of us near the boundaries and this guy from the other team comes walking towards us. He had his gun down, but he was walking slow and looked disapointed like he had just gotten hit. I assumed he was out (I know I am stupid) As he walked by us with his gun down low, a guy from my group walked up to him and pointed his gun at him and yelled are you out? the kid just kept walking. He said we are all going to start shooting at you if you don't say you are out. Then he said "Goddammit I am ****ing out"
I found out later he was trying to dead man walk! It was funny that he didn't try to shoot at us sooner. I guess he wanted to get all the way behind us first! He would have completely had us if that one guy wasn't with us.
I was fooled by that once... once. I was f-ing pissed, mostly at myself for not catching it! From then on if the guy dont have his gun in the air, barrel plug in and yelling out he is fair game! I have taken out about 6 people doing it and have probably hit 20+ people that were out just not doing it right! I used to think of it as cheating now...bring it on! Getting a free out is kool with me!

man after someone pulls the dead man's walk..every guy that's out is shot at again for the rest of the day..

Its a good tactic that I've used a few times. But once you use it, EVERYBODY is on to you, so its best to save it for one important play.
The bad thing about it is that ive seen so many people try it, that i make SURE people are out. Im putting 10-15 balls into the air in a second and a half, so when a guy gets hit with one ball, there are at least half a dozen more right behind it. I don't mean to light people up, but dead man walks just make you feel like a newbie when youre eliminated by it.

Where I live there are no real fields and most kids that own the fields are alot younger than me. So I bet if I tryed that I wouldn't be comeing back for a while!
