hi, I used to play and just got the boys custom pros 98's and myself an A5 and a Freak Barrell...

Started with a case of Rampage PMI... discovered the stuff will roll through my Freak barrell with the supplied insert... not exactally so with the stock 98 barrells... a gentle blow will send it through... so... I'm going gee. this supplied insert is a LOT big...

So, I opened a case of Draxxus Blaze - bags are sealed up and not twist tied... says procaps on the bag and they are Silver... how cool is that...
anyway... slid one in my Freak and bingo... it did not roll through... a gentle blow sent it through... tried the stock 98 barrell and it took a little more of a blow to send it through... kind of a thump sound but I can see light around it.. as i can with the freak barrell on my A5...

So... was that case of rampage just a freak or do some balls just come smaller than others...

I would imagine this effects accuracy but I do not want to be cleaning my A5 with broken paint either...

We play woods ball (carroll county maryland if anyone is interested) and just looking for consistant paint that is reasonably accurate and priced.

paintballwholesalers has both paints listed - prices were good in 2000 count.

Based on experience, which paint brands will tend to me smaller/larger or less consistant?

thanks
Wayne

A perfect/paint bore match is not a must have for open bolt markers. It's nice to have and will increase your guns efficiency (how many shots per tank refill). I shoot .689 paint thru a .685 barrel from time to time. If I tried the blow test I'd go blue, but I haven't had problems with breaking.

I've found that the more expensive paints tend to be on the small-medium and the recreational paints to the medium-large. I stick to RPS/PMI and Draxus but I try to avoid the PMI Bigballs...from my experience they are very inconsistant in bore size.

Also, if you have a freak with only one insert you're better off returning it and buying a cheaper barrel or at least getting one more insert. The whole point of a multipiece barrel is to have multiple bore sizes to fit any paint.

Get a .687 insert for your freak barrel. All around it will be your best choice. Living in Carrol County u probably frequent Paintball Wholesalers or Paintball Sportsland. At Wholesalers they stock xball bronze for $45. Your not going to find a better paint at that price. If im too lazy to stop by Wholesalers before going to Pbsportland Ill pick up a box of Jt Evolve, same relative price but not as good. It has a hard shell that likes to bounce but doesnt break in the gun.
Just a Fyi: Wholesalers offers a one year pass that starts from the day of purchase. The cost is $150, it includes unlimited play, free air, and a %7 discount on all paint. Pm or email me next time your at Wholesalers field and u can try out my Freak Kit

Yea If it really matters that much to you then you can pick up J&J edge kits for your kids http://www.firstcallpaintball.com/pages-productinfo/category-1_2_4/product-2982/paintball-gun-barrels-barrel-kits-j-and-j-performance-j-and-j-precision-j-and-j-edge-elite-kit.html?zenid=8c101be770d54c1a4273631bf296d83f they are 77 bucks a pop. Then they will be set for any paint. You can just add a few inserts to your freak and you should be ready for any size paint.
