View Full Version : there WILL be a DM7, and a dye ion competitor

straight from the horses (dave youngblood's) mouth on the webcast. the DM7 will use an ultralite frame, the LPR will be reduced in size but not elminated, and the ultralite barrel will not be changed. the ion competitor will be called the proto rail, and priced above the ion but still a budget minded marker (below the PM line in price), and it will be made out of aluminum (as in not composite like the ion). there will be a PM7.

That gives a range of around 200-700. Broad.
Nonetheless I want to see it. If it is around 300-400, that will most definetly be the closest thing to an "Ion Killer" that I can see.

ugh no it doesnt. it's going to be in the 300-400 tops...i said less than PM line so people wouldnt think it's going to have an msrp of 675 or whatever.

The chance of Dye/Proto ever making a good deal in paintball is slim at best. Anything over $300 is tough to call an Ion competitor. With the Promaster, Wrath, and others already in that $250 or less group, Dye is too late. This gun sounds more like a stop-gap in the void between the low high-ends (Ion) and the middle high-ends (PM6).

So, DM7 = DM6 pretty much? I was hoping it'd be lighter and better.
Shadow21

IT will be lighter, but not by much at all. They're reducing the size of the LPR somewhat, but it can't be that much of a weight difference.

Meh, Rather stick with DM6 and maybe get the DM7 LPR.
Shadow21
09-10-2006, 11:10 AM
If the DM7 LPR is going to be smaller in all categories, weight, dimentions, etc. the DM7 LPR might not work in the DM6 LPR housing.

But they might make one that will fit on the DM6.

no, they won't...

The proto rail will come to late to upset the ion, wrath ltd, and promaster in anyway to my guessing. Any word though on a release date? I'm guessing world cup maybe.

Any idea how the ion priced one will operate?

They talked more about it on today's webcast. The Proto Rail will have an MSRP of $300.
The DM7 will be lighter and it is also supposed to have improved efficiency.

:agree: sounds about right

Yeah I really don't think anything over $300 can be classified as an Ion competitor, and I do agree its too late for really any more Ion competitors. Everybody already has an Ion, and I don't think that people will want to upgrade from their Ion to a gun competing with their Ion.

Sounds more like it'll be in the mid high-ends with the Interceptor, Defiant 2, Omen, ProStock, and Nerve.
mugenXP
09-13-2006, 03:31 PM
yeah, too many people already have an ion, no ones going to buy another gun that is in the same class as their ion unless the proto rail is that much better.
but proto rail having an MSRP at $300, then i'd say people will sell them for $280 just like when the ion was MSRP $300

You call those mid-high end? At least better than the level that the Ion's on?

All but the omen i'd call high-end for sure.

DM7 will be the last DM IMO and I dont think it will sell very well. Its basicly the same ad the DM6 but a smaller LPR? Thats just stupid...

I wouldn't be so sure the DM7 will be the last. Technology is always getting better and the DM8 could be even smaller, lighter, and more efficient then all the others. So i doubt this'll be the last.

True but they would need to make some major difference for future guns for them to do something IMO. Makeing it smaller and lighter can only go so far.

I think the biggest difference in newer paintball guns in the future wont be speed, or size, but efficiency.
iliveforthis99
09-16-2006, 11:31 AM
Yeah they'll probably change a little to make the big improvements. Just look at the difference of the first trix and then now. But no matter what they'll still becalled a the DM.

Dye will make a new gun every year and people will buy it because it says dye on the box. That's just the way it is.

I'm just hoping that someday the guns will level out and improvements won't be so huge and the research and technology will go to making paintballs themselves better projectiles.

Hahaha hey man, my gun is in there too. With the few ups I have on it, it can now compete with the high-high ends.
