get the custom they last much longer and tippmann is one of the most trustful guns and if you like the automatic feature you can convert them for about 200$ or just by them automatic:)

or.........and this is a big or:dodgy: you could just buy the ion for $200 instead of having to buy a $200 part for a long :censored: gun

Is this really a tough question? you both gotta get the ion, its actually a really good gun, and for about the same pice as the 98 custom. the custom is a terrible gun that chops more than emiril lagasse. the eyes will difinatley help you both out and since your at that level im assuming that the stock ramping will also help you. go with the ion. ive got an angel speed 05 and it shoots like a charm, i sometimes go and play woodsball with it just for kick and it rips up the competition no matter what.

Is your brother on drugs? Smack him until he's right then tell him to get the Ion with you. Only thing Custom Pro has over the Ion is you won't have to maintain it as much but even once you understand the Ion it'll be easy enough to maintain. But just tell him to save his cash and you save yours. You get the good gun where he gets the over priced gun and will always be begging you to use it when you can pull up this thread and tell him no and laugh at him.

i love how people are giving advice saying the ramping chip will help, and eyes will help.... n00bs...
ill put my money on it, that the one who gets the custom pro becomes a better paintball player than the one with the ion....

I would get the ion as well, I mean, its cheap and fast. You may have more maintanence involved with it, but that will just prepare you for more complex guns down the line. Plus, it is fast and cheap.

ok well I am a tippmann guy myself, as so far I love every one I have used from them. But I well be good here and not say tippmann only.
Personaly I like the tippmann 98's, they are bullet proof and a great buy for the cash. But bor newer players its even better as it is manual, as it makes u aim first then shoot. you can always upgrade to a e grip and such and do lots of mods to customize it. So its a GREAT choice BUT its not the best spead ball gun. If you speadball, there are other GREAt options. IT can do speedball but there are better ones
The ion, EH to be honest its not the best gun out there. PLEASE don't flame, here is why I say this. spend a lot of tiem at the shop and I see a lot of ions come back with issues. They can be finicey, and not the sturdiest of markers. For someone who relay knows markers they can be good, but if you are newer to markers, they can be issue prone. That is form what I have seen.
Now here is where you know I am beign nice, here are other options. Friend of mine has a autococker triligy (red one) and besides the trigger being 1 1/2 fingers in size, its a great marker. He has bashed it around and it still fire's stright as a whip and again is mechanical so it wel force you to aim. If you have to get a elevtric marker and don't want a tippmann, then another good one is the Spyder Electra. The newest ones have eyes, bouble trigger and all the fun cheats you could want. Tryed them several times and I want one myself now lol. the price is realy not much over a ion the last time I checked, and its for my money, a far superior marker.

Here's what it comes down to...personal preference. If you like one and your buddy likes the other, then you should each get what appeals to you. Will the Tippman 98 be more durable...yeah probably, I mean there is a reason they're used as rental markers. However, the Ion is probably going to be faster, smaller and a little bit zippier out of the box. You will need to be running HPA on the Ion and you're saving money up front as you would need to put an RT and other upgrades on a 98 to get it to shoot in a manner similar to the Ion.
Different Strokes for different folks.

Hi, I was just wondering if you'd like to support any of your claims.
I well support his claim that the person starting with a 98 over a ion well be a bette rplayer, or atleast get better faster. With a ion, pull trigger and you spray paint, who cares to aim right. Well um one shot kills and if you learnt o aim and learn what paint dose in diffrent conditions, then you are all the better off. I hav e a e grip on my tippmann a5, but I still take my time and aim and usualy first shot kills. This is because I started with semi automatical mechanical (no e grip) and it realy helped. If I could I woudl ahve started with a pump jun as you then are forced to be dam good to do well. Use spead of the gun and such later when you know you do not need it. That way you become a dam good player.
Hell a lot of my team still have not added e grips or other electric trigger systems to there markers and last time I checked, every encounter our team has done this year at BIG games, we came out on top. Why, because we worked together, and our guys can aim.

Ion.
I don't feel like explaining why you should get the Ion over the Tippmann and why GT_Hawk and NoelyDeezNutz are 100% wrong. Just both get an Ion.

I agree with your woodsball suggestion, but not your speedball suggestion. don't get an electra because most speedball tourneys won't let you use it because of the rocking trigger.

No no no, nobody cares about woodsball. I was talking about speedball.
Also, the more paint you can put out, statistically the more of a chance you have of one of them hitting something. 15 balls in the air is alot better than 1. And just because you're shooting at 15bps doesn't mean you're inaccurate.
There is an inaccurate myth that playing pump will make someone better at speedball. In theory, this is a good idea. It teaches people to place their shots better and what not. But in practice, this is not true. I play PSP/Xball, and it's not about placing your shots so much as holding down lanes and being able to snapshoot.

Ok the rocking trigger on electra can be turned off so only one contact works making it tunrement legal from my understanding. Correct me if I am wrong here.
I never specified speedball for pump/mechanical, just in general.
coolrazer um how am I dead wrong as um I said may things and justified my opinions. and remeber in the end they are opinions. But if I am wrong, please explain why, else what you said means little.

Basically what I think that coolrazer was getting at is your claim that starting slow and being forced to "place your shots" makes you a better player. In truth, you can always just shoot 1 bps with any gun. But it's better to have a variety and be able to put out firepower.
Paintball is about accuracey by volume, not accuracey by precision.

Crede777, I think it depends on the game type to be honest. I do more senario/tactical/woodbll style games, where if I can hit you with 1 ell placed shot and your friend don;t know know where I am then I am set. So accuracey by amount of paint not always the best. So when I ay best t start with a pump/semi I well be refering to my experence in my style of game. For speedball, wel the name alown makes it sound like fire as much as u can and it well hit. That being said you are talking to a guy who took a old tippmann pump into speedball game, note it was against walkon players. I did decent but it was for the hell of it.
But ya again all depends on game type, and when I take out 4 people on my own with say 10 shots total, I am happy I learned to aim my marker before getting the fun spray mods. And yes in wodball there are times when I empty a hopper as fast as I can to :)

It's really not difficult to be accurate with one shot with a paintball gun...

If you do both, I would go more for a speed ball style marker, again I beleave for the price there are better ones then the ion that can handle a bit more beating around that well hapen in the woods. But again go towards a more speedball style marker if you are doing both.
