It seems that all the pro players use barrels with some type and degree of porting. I read alot of reviews on barrels and everyone seems to think that when you break a ball in the barrel it makes your following shots curve to varying degrrees because of the paint remaing in the porting holes even after you squeegee. Firstly, what is your take on porting? Secondly, are there any "good" barrels out there (in the "cheaper" range) that do not have porting?

Ports in a gun are a good thing, BUT only to a certian extent. You want a barrel that has porting about a 2 inches long at the end of the barrel. The ports are there to let the gas traveling in front of the paintball to escape out the sides of the barrel insted of causing turbulance when the paintball exits the barrel.

yeah porting also makes your gun alot quieter, i'm also heard accounts saying it greatly increases accuracy but i've never used a non ported barrel

The more porting, the quieter the gun. Also a barrel with absolutely no porting will generally have more kick than say, an armson stealth, because the stealth slowly vents the air in front and behind the ball out the side porting, while a non porting barrel very suddenly vents the air out the front of the barrel before and after the ball leaves.

Though porting+long barrels can be bad for those wanting to acheive low operating pressures Or abs. max efficiency :)
