Maniac Board; Fact or Fiction?

Well, there was a rumor going around that Planet Eclipse has been releasing a new board in all of their recently sold Egos (PL, SL, and 06) called the Maniac board without ACTUALLY TELLING ANYONE.

Is it true?
So what do you all want to know obout the Maniac Board.

Yes it does exist. Yes it can be found in SLs, PLs and standard 06s

The board is Yellow in color and has Maniac Printed onto the board.

The Power-Up screen shows the Maniac Logo.

It has a lot of extra adjustable parameters.

Guns have been shipping for several weeks with these boards in.

Very suprised it has taken this long for this subject to come up.

A prize for the first person to list all the new adjustability and features.................

Yes it is!

As of now, the only real advantage it seems to has is that you can easily change modes by holding in the trigger and turning the gun on and setting ramping cap to 25 bps. This is a huge change, and it comes stock with all new egos!

Sounds like a great marketing scheme for PE to sell more Egos to compete with the "new" guns to be released at WC.

While that's a possibility, it'd be a poor move on Eclipse's part. I am looking at getting a new gun in '07, and from a consumer standpoint would be scared to buy an 06 Ego so late in the year. I'm afraid if I buy one, then Planet will announce the 07 a month later...

Well that sucks. I bought a new '06 Ego on the 1st of September, direct from the Planet booth at the UK paintball championships, and I received the stock board..... :(

The info Jack posted was in fact incorrect. We have been shipping them to our US office for a few weeks to get the Maniacs in place in time for release - Jack just got a little confused ;)

I read that to mean that the boards are being stockpiled, but are not yet being distributed, or at least, not several weeks ago as Jack's post suggests.

I have asked if the new boards will be made available separately.

That suckssssss. If you're going to pay more $ for a board, might as well get a Virtue or Tadao.

Unless this board turns out to be cheap (can't see it somehow, can you?) that is pretty much my plan.

It would be nice to retain the LCD, and see what the new features are, but if it is anything close to the cost of the high end aftermarket boards, it'll be hard to justify buying it.

Virtue? :yuck: A Tadao or Predator would be my choice.

I've been a Planet Eclipse customer since 1997, so it was really only a matter of time until I bought one. Trust me to buy it at almost exactly the wrong time..... :|

But I love LCD. So much more nifty / easy to use. Too bad no one came out with a microswitched LCDed aftermarket board.

It gets the job done - I have one in my Nerve - I wanted to see if they lived up to the hype. Honestly though, having a Tadao M7 board in my Angel, a Predator board in a DM5 and a Nox Unleashed chip (also for the DM5, combined with the stock board), I would personally take any of these over the Virtue board.

Easier to program than the Predator board though, I'll give it that.

I've just searched through the deleted OT forums, and the only posts I made with the word "Ego" in them were in the Eclipse OT thread (bizarre, huh?). You're losing your marbles..... :crazy: If anyone claimed they would never buy an Ego, it certainly wasn't myself.

Actually, if you look back over the thread, you will note that it first started to change subject when pb667 said that I would never buy an Ego. I responded to the change, I did not implement it. :P

But back on topic, why would Planet be doing this? With their silence on the new generation of markers, and now a new board in 06 Egos, I'm getting worried.

I don't think there's much to worry about. I just think PE is trying to milk as much 06 Ego sale as possible before they release the 07 Egos.

Once the 07 Egos are announced, very few people are going to buy NIB 06 Egos because they'll be waiting for the 07.

I mean...look at the Cyborg. The 07 Cyborg was just announed last week. PBK dropped the price of an 06 Cyborg from 975 to 830. And they even said 07 to be released late December/early January.

There is in fact going to be an 07 Ego. Last weekend we [racticed with a few OC Bushwackers and they said there was 100% definitely going to be an '07 Ego. My '06 is already traded in anticipation.

I was about to by myself a Dark Ego like next week in one of the new colors with the Maniac board. Now I'm feeling like maybe I should wait and see what '07 brings. First they gotta release the basic version then comes the '07 PL's, maybe with some new sick milling.

Just got my Dark with a maniac board. Suprisingly it is a newer revision, 1.1, then the picture posted earlier in the thread, version 1.0. Havnt ventured into the training modes but biggest difference so far is 25 BBS can be had in any of the modes including semi even with the eyes off. Nice that its possible but i havnt been able get more then 13 with no air in semi. The debounce setting dont allow bounce, at least by listening while dry firing again with no air. Also, it is possible to ramp with the display showing "custom" rather the corresponding ramping mode.
The only comparison I have is to the operation of my E1 and E2. As most know it is very easy to get Eblades to bounce.The debounce setting with the Maniac board thus far eliminates bounce even if with a debounce of 1.
Conclusion. Higher ROF for all modes with a max 25bbs cap. Can easily mask ramping mode from display BUT if a ref checks your gun its obvious. Any other question post them up. I'll be playing and setting the gun up tommorow so I'll add any significant data.
