hello, my buddy said that he is will to trade me his upped DM3 for my tippmann a5 straight up, it works fine he is just out of paintball for the most part and wants a woods gun. I was thinking and i dont have the knowledge to tech a dm3 so i was thinking i would get it and then trade for an upped ion and cash, sound like a good idea?

idk how much harder a dm3 is to maintain than a ion but the tippman trade i would do in a heart beat

If you get the DM3 you will regret trading it for the ion DM3 FTW

DM3s will shoot virtually the same as a Dm4,5, or 6, it is just alot heavier and bulkier. I <3 mine.

Take the Matrix. Keep it. Love it.

dm3 over an ion or tippy any day. DM3's are not hard to maintain and there's plenty of solid info in the Dye Precision forum on how to lube it, tech it, up it, love it, baby it, etc..

Yeah and the bolt seems like its easier to take out than on the Ion. The Ion you have to fully take apart to get the bolt out. Just learn how to work on the DM3 and you'll love it. Don't trade him back either when he wants the DM3 back.

Do the trade dm3s are nice though old and heavy they can still rock w/ the new guns. But now does the dm3 have eyes? If it doesn't then depending on how much it would be to install them then i'd do the trade but then sell it and get something else.

I'd do it for sure. If it's in good condition and has good up's i would expect an ion and cash but if it's not really good I wouldn't expect people to add cash to their ions unless the ion sucks. But you may just want to keep the dm3 instead of the ion anyway. It's up to you.

which is easier to tech and maintain?

I haven't taken an Ion apart, but the 'trix is really easy to maintain. All you need to take it completely apart is a set of allen keys and, I think, a phillips screwdriver to take the grip frame off.

The ion might be a little simpler to work on. But i've never taken apart a trix so i wouldn't know how easy it is to work on it.

On www.nicksdistortion.com (http://www.nicksdistortion.com) he has a guide for taking the bolt out of a PM6. Seeing as DM's and PM's are basically the same thing and someone said all they got was lighter and smaller maintenance shouldn't be different.

As DAg said before there are plenty of stickies on Matrices. DOn't worry, they are there to help.
Get the DM3, don't trade it for an Ion.

the maintainence is different. go to pbnation.com, find the vintage matrix forum, then go to the ultamite sticky, it shows how to do everything for your DM3 there.

I would keep the matrix as well.
