hey, im looking at a j&j performance starter kit for my ion. iv been very impressed with j&j over the years so im pretty sure i want to get this over freak or some other kit. my question is, will i be able to get this J&J starter kit (http://jjperformance.com/edgestarter.html) and be able to take it and use it right away, or do i also need to buy a different barrel for the inserts? its a n0b question with an obvious answer i know, but i really cant tell whether i need a second barrel for this kit to be any good or whether i can use it as it is.

thanx

That kit is ready to use right out of the package. Instead of inserts like some kits, the Edge uses complete backs and fronts. Just put a back and the included front together and install on your gun.

just so you know, the starter kit has a pretty low assortment of bore sizes.
maybe try the elite kit, or the starter kit if you want a better range of bores. the elite is what I would suggest for the best versatility of bores.

some REALLLY good prices on these kits. however, they dont have the elite kit available in shocker thread, which you'd need for your ion. they do have the all star available in the thread you'd need tho.

I loved my Edge Kit. Worked great. Cleans out very easy. My only complaint with what you are looking at is that it doesn't have a bore smaller than .688. It would have been nice to have a smaller bore.

The only reason I switched to my DYE UL is:
1. Its a DYE UL Kit. Need I say more.
2. The back were only 5 1/2" Long if I remember correctly and my UL backs are 7 1/2". I like the longer backs. More control on the ball.

Otherwise that is a great kit. High quality. Smooth. If you have a break it shoots out quickly. Backs are still longer than alot of kits out there. No inserts to get bent. Nice Porting.

Ions use impulse threads which doesn't matter much because they don't have those either. I would get the Evil Pipe kit from the same site. Its 40 bucks and they had impulse threads last time I checked (just hurry if you want one they are going fast and most likely being discontinued). And don't worry about the fact that they are being discontinued its not because they are bad its because they are probably coming out with something newer. The evil pipe kit is tried and true. Its a nice barrel kit at an awesome price. I was thinking about picking up like 2-3 of those kits the other day and still might.
