The age old question. I search and read sttickies and all but anyway.
First off, we have all heard the rumors of the breaking tips on the pipe, is it true.
Secound, I have a J&J ceramic, will I really miss the self cleaning that much or is there little diffrence.
Third, do ll the Pipe come with the adapter thingies, or is it just the ones at First call that come with these.
Lastly, is tyhere that great of a noise diffrence between the two, or will I not really notice.

Alright to settle the dispute about adapters, I posted this on PBN.

If you shoot an open bolt gun it won't affect performance. Howeverm if you shoot a closed bolt gun it will. Depending on how long the adapter is there will be more room for a ball to roll before it is stopped by the paint/bore match...and well, according to physics the varying length that the ball has to travel will affect accuracy. Of course this only applies to closed bolt guns (such as a cocker) and will be more apparent the longer the adapter.

Yes but think about it the adapter just extends the breach. After that it hits the bore size straighening it out. You will just lose some air efficency.

And then you get a barrel break. The ball has already been shot and instead of travelling that 1 inch or so, it travels 2 or 3 and the flight path has already become unstable.
Not to mention you will see a slight decrease in efficiency.

Ok, if you look in my sig, yeah...I have both barrel systems.
I'll answer your questions first, then give you the pros and cons of both barrels, as I see.
1)I have not ever seen a broken tip on a pipe. Doesnt mean that it cant happen, but I havent seen it.
2) will answer this in the pros and cons
3) Using an adapter with a kit, completely voids the reason for using a kit, since the adapter will act as a control bore. In a lot of cases, barrel adapter = Bad.
4) Yes, the pipe is louder. it's not a bust your eardrums, and leave your ears ringing kind of loud, but you CAN tell a difference in them. A lot of this, is because on a gun that's set up fairly well, the J&J is a "fairly" quiet barrel.
Ok, first off, the Pipe comes with a better assortment of backs. I use a really small paint (scorch....683 back). the edge (that I have. mine only has 4 backs) doesnt have a back that small, so the pipe is more accurate with that paint, since it fits the bore better.
The backs on the Pipe are also longer, which makes taking them off of my autococker clone MUCH easier. The Edge backs are actually kinda short.
My pipe...while it seems to be more accurate, doesnt shoot well after a break or chop. The balls will just continue to curve, until I swab the barrel. My J&J doesnt have that problem after several shots.
My J&J is made of thicker metal than my Pipe. And the construction is better. The first pipe I had, I sent back, it looked like somebody had taken metal nippers to it. This also means that my edge is heavier, which is GOOD. Heavy helps to fight barrel hop when you shoot fast.
The J&J is a little bit more air efficent, and definitely more quiet.
The J&J backs are Thicker, and scrape across the barbs of the pnuematics of my cocker clone. Which also makes it a royal mother to get a strap wrench around them. (I do NOT recommend an edge for a cocker.....)
J&J's colors suck. (IMO)
