It keeps your velocity more consistent, just like all regs.

if you want to run on CO2 and then maybe switch to Nitro then go with a Palmer's it handles the temperature differnece better than any stabilizer. IMHO

Palmer's stabalizer is the best aftermarket reg IMO. I am going to purchase one soon. My friend has one and he loves it.

actually no its not the best, it depends on your needs- If your like me and need higher flow rate its not the best. It is a good reg though.
Well i got one on my marker and I have found it FAR superiour to any X-chamber or regulator that I have ever used! Plus it is nice because it is simple, maybe not asthically pleasing to the eye but I go for usefullness not looks! I know I know I am not normal but I like my gun to fire correctly all the time and not have to mess with it every 5 seconds!

The regulator costs 90$ for the male (vertical) palmer stabilizer go to http://www.palmer-pursuit.com you can also put a mirco gauge on it. the palmer has a psi range of 0-900. which is great for really low pressure use.
as for a picture of one go to the air accesseries review section at pbreview.com (where else?) also there is a pic at the website
