The difference between the 98 custom and the custom pro, is that the custom pro comes with a longer barrel, is ment to support a e-grip(eventhough the 98 custom can have one). Also the custom pro is more expensive than the 98 custom. The difference between the a-5 and and the other tippmanns is that it comes with a cyclone feed system already on it. The a-5 also has more upgrades than the 98 custom and the custom pro I think.

Well, lemme state it this way.
Custom Pro:
Drop Forward, Egrip Compatible (grip halves there for it), longer stock barrel (WAYY more accurate), and that's it.
Custom:
8" Unaccurate as heck barrel, Some are non-egrip compatible (older ones) and doesn't come with drop forward. I don't totally know but I think that the Custom (newer ones) do require grip halves. I DONT KNOW, but check.
A-5:
Cyclone Feed Stock, different internals and blowback positions. Basically, the big difference is the feed and internals. Personally I like the Custom pro's better, but its all preference.
ALSO, there are I think more upgrades for the Custom Pro/Custom, and a huge difference is the LPK for both guns. If u consider getting a HPA tank, consider the LPK for either gun. Tippy's have no regulator to come with, so u'll get worse consistancy, effiencency, and it's louder (i dno y) than CO2 and if u get this LPK for the Custom I know it lowers PSI levels, gets much better consistancy, and WAYY better efficency

Cold someone tell us new guys (me) which of the three is most rugged? I see that the A5 is made mostly of plastic and the 98 is metal. What is the Pro 2006 made of?
I played with a 98 and it was ok, but I'm leaning towards getting the Pro 2006. Since I'm new to this, I still want my gun to be rugged and durable. Should I go with the Pro 2006 or get the 98 with some upgrades?
Thanks.

The A5 is not made of plastic...its just a matte black finish on the metal. All are equally rugged. The A5 just makes it so you won't have to up to a better hopper once you get the egrip in it. Some like the A5, some like the custom pro..I was an A5 man myself.

A5 is slightly better, some things these guys missed was the a5 doesn't really have an open bolt (thus less chance of dirt getting inside the marker) and the a5 is WAYY easier to field strip vs. the 98's.

I say get the Custom pro i have one and it's a great purchase if your a beginner it's a great gun i have one and i am fairly new to paintball. Get this don't get the 98, the Custom pro is about 20-30 more but it's got drop forward better stock barrel and double finger trigger. If you do get a Custom Pro make sure you read this. http://www.tippmann.com/about_us/pressReleaseDetails.aspx?id=26
If you want the A-5 go for it it's a good gun too it starts out with more firepower then the Custom pro and 98's do but if your short on money or not gona play very often get the Custom Pro. This is just my opinion, you choose whatever fits you best.

...that the A5 has a lot of plastic. One reviewer even said he thought it was 99% plastic made. So what is exactly plastic on the A5? Can anyone fill us in?
Thanks.

I would get the custom pro because it it the best of both worlds(A-5,98). A thing that is plastic on the a-5 are the cycone feed system and that is pretty much it.

well if u really work this out. I like the LPK better on the Custom Pro. The a5 to upgrade to APE Rampage Board (best board out there) costs alot. And to get the APE and Cyclone, u save a little i think hmmm 60+85 = 145. Total upgrade for the A-5 = Grip halves + Board + Egrip upgrade = 160.00. so u save a little. But overall i dont like the way the a-5's bolt is setup. I got the Custom Pro cuz of the drop and trigger, and upgradability to egrip easily. Also, at mi shop, it was the only one in Camo. I love camo things. Lol, but truly if u wanna get an LPK and an Egrip from APE, get the Custom Pro. ALSO, if u get the LPK, or a rocket cock, u can prevent that dirt in the marker thing.
