yea no worrys man, plenty of kids wear chest protectors, I used to when I first started out. Its a good confidence booster when your still uncomfortable with getting hit. dont fret about wearing it, no one will give you a hard time.

some people say chest protectors are just a sign of weakness, but forget what they say. i used one and grew out of it, i needed to feel the pain lol. i recommend you get one if you are not sure you want more protection.

It's no problem. I know plenty of adults and kids who wear padding and no one says anything. No one enjoys pain and a little padding goes a long way. Before spending the money on a protector you might want to try a sweat shirt or layered clothing, which goes a long way towards easing a hit.

yeah sweat shirts and like a t-shirt works fine, w/e you feel comfortable with. but in my opinion the pain of getting hit a shiz load the first 2 times i went really made me better at keeping my body/marker conceled.
try with just a sweatshirt first and go from there because no point in spending money on something you end up not using

no it isnt.
if you have never played, just try layering, wearing loose clothes. if your one of those skater punks with girl pants. dont wear those. that will give you pain.

I don't like them really. Seems they'd be uncomfortable and harder to move around in. And it's kinda like training wheels IMO. They can be good and bad. Good since you have a lot more confidence then without them but once you take them off you're like. "Ok...what do I do now?"

The ground-pounder is a padded shirt.
The first time you go, wear loose clothes, maybe even a sweatshirt. After that go ahead and get it if you can't take the "pain," but it'll make you look like a cylinder.
Where the chest protector SCREAMS "I'M A NOOB". But that is also an extra sign for us vets to take it easy on you during the game. I like them personally for new players. I agree it can turn into a crutch but its better than them hating the sport on their first time.
I would rather see a player in a protector than being to scared to play without one.
Age really determines the laugh factor. If you are older than 16 then you will really look funny in a protector. That drastically increases your chance of being looked at like a wimp.

I've studied up on chest protectors (I got bonus-balled from like 10 Ft with a guy that was shooting hot) and discovered that some pros use them, so a Ground Pounders from Empire would not be a bad idea. I just wear a couple of T-shirts and a long sleeve shirt (getting a jersey soon), and have few problems. Oh, and I DO NOT use a chest protector.

If you play at a field that allowes bunkering, I would suggest getting a chest protector and a neck guard... getting bunkerd smarts. If you play at a field that doesnt allow bunkering, you can go into the field with a t-shirt and sweat pants and be ok. After you get shot once... you will learn that it really doesnt hurt that bad.
