Looking into purchasing a marker. Need some suggestions, soo many options out there. Looking at Spyder Xtra, Piranha PSI G2, AutoMag, AutoCocker, Bruizer Outlaw, etc. Something in that range. A package around 500. Something that will last a while, be upgradeable, and good looks. Also, whats the options worth buying? Thank you

I have this gun and it is great. All it really needs is a new barrel. Basically it is a spyder clone. If you are willing to spend a lot of money go for the cocker, they are top notch guns.

A newbie has no buisness ownin a cocker until they learn how to clean, work on, polish, and fix a less suffisticated gun. Your just askin for trouble if he buys a gun like that now..... In my opinion get a piranha pro. THey've got looks, quick strip pin, nice stock bolt, gas through for grip, verticle feed, and a loooonnng upgrade path that he can follow with $500. Then later if he wants a cocker, let him get a cocker.

Yeah but if he's got the money for a cocker no reason he should pass up the opportunity and buy a Spyde,r then just end up buying a cocker or mag later on

A mag is a real easy gun for a newbie too own,low maintance, shoots *****in,A cocker for a new preson into the game, well that depends where his mind set is.Some people got a gift too fig out anything.Where as there so that couldn't beat there way out of a paper bag.Myself If some one wants too get a cocker then they should. But they really need to think about it frist.Watch guys that own them.I have seen guys every weekend messing with them.Others dont depends on who it is.

If the Piranha PSI is on your list, you should definitly wait another month for the new Piranha G3 markers to come out, they look good and have some good upgrades ... Plus, we need someone to buy one and write a review for the site. Not that I'm asking you to be a Guinea Pig or anything like that.

Well for $500 dollars, I think I would get something better than a rebel. You could get a high end marker,,but since you are just starting out,,id recommend a nice Tippmann Package. They are very nice guns. A couple of my friends had one and they take a beating. They are pretty accurate and you can get a kit including mask, tank, gun, hopper for under $200. Id suggest getting a new barrel though. My friend installed a RT (reactive trigger) and it will throw some dam paint out!!!! Or Id suggest a Spyder Shutter package!!! They are nice guns too. Very upgradable. You will want to get a higher end gun. Trust me.. After a couple of months..or weeks..hell..or games..you will prob want a high end semi..or full auto. Its just up too you..If you want a high end first,,,id recommend doing some research on it,,then maybe if and when you do get a cocker,,or a mag,,you'll be somewhat knowledgable about it....just my too sints....

If you have to ask what marker to get you should not be getting one! I will go back to the old addage of "rent till you find out what the heck you want"!!!!!!!! From this thread take the top 4-5 ideas and go to your local field and try them out! Ask questions! Take your time! Find out what YOU want! DO NOT buy a gun on what people say here! Get Ideas ONLY! You will notice that most of the people touting a certain gun are owners of that gun! Dont give in to the hype about certain guns either! Just becasue they are advertised a lot does not make them good!

Its your money make it your decision on what the best gun is for you!

The idea that you should not buy a cocker because you are new to paintball as the major reason is just plain silly. For around $300 you can buy a 2001 cocker and upgrade as you go along. If he is going to spend $500 anyway why not get something he will not outgrow. If it ends up that he doesn't like paintball (yea right) he can still sell it to of of the poeple that have played for 2 or 3 years that couldn't buy a cocker because they were a newbie. Just my 2 cents

I'm just sayin.. i mean when u were a newbie to the sport would u have been able to maintain a cocker with all of it's components and upgrades right off?!! i know i couldn't have, i can now, but i couldn't have then

Two things first, the cocker if your don't start putting all sorts of new stuff on it right away is a very dependable marker. Just leave it shock while you learn about it. With all the info about it on the net, unless the person is all thumbs, should be able to learn all they need to know. If your are saying that upgrading the marker may cause problems and that may turn him off paintball I could agree. But I enjoy the idea of making new parts and fixing or improving my marker. It gives me somehting to do when I'm not out playing.

The second thing I wanted to say was after my last post I thought about and, buying or not buying ANY marker on the sole bases that you are or are not a newbie just does'nt make much sence.

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions. The place where I go is Greene, Iowa . They only have two choices of guns, so the trying out guns idea might not work. I'm gonna wait on the Cocker probably, heard mixed reviews on that gun. I don't think that I need the best gun right away. Those Piranha G3's should be good, at least I am hoping. Gonna try a friends Tippman 98, Shutter, Spyder, F4. . . The AutoMag, I just don't like the looks of that gun, maybe its just the pictures. Keep the ideas coming, very helpful. Dan
