Pads question...

Hey I'm wanting to buy a pair of knee pads online. What I was wondering is how I know the size I should order. The reason I ask is that I thought I was large in pants size, I am a 33w which is a medium obviously. So I was wondering if the same kind of sizing chart exists for other equipment.
