I play paintball about 2 times a month with about 10-15 friends. We play in the woods on or own and have a blast. Well last week I shot my brother and left him a nasty welt. It's alot worse now :P . After that shot I went out and bought one of those radar X handheld chronos to test these things because I don't like putting welts like that on friends.
My brothers gun came in at 280-85 over 3 shots. Mine was showing 350-55.
We are going to test everyones guns now.
What is a safe FPS we should set these things at??
What are field limits?
I know when I dropped a grown man it had to be high because I see little kids at the field getting hit and laughing.

300 at most. Most feilds have a limit at 280 or 285.

between 280 and 300 is the normal for woodsball... anything over 300 could possibly break a mask lense.

Under 300. Most fields use 285 or so to allow for velocity fluctuations. 300 is the set speed limit becuase not only are you going to get serious bruises, but you are also playing at speeds that can break small bones, and possibly crack mask lenses.

the paintball mask lense is only safely rated UP TO 300fps. after that you can not sue the maker of the lense or mask.

Most fields around here have 285 max.

285 is what we use at our field, and it seems to be the most common. Most ppl who just buy a gun and play with it never know how fast there shooting and thats usually how ppl get hurt, we check my buddies gun and he was shooting at about 360 and then i knew why i hated getting shot by him HAHA

Nice welt...300 is average, 280 is about as low as you'll want to go, trust me.

I think I've seen some fields that have limits as low as 250. My field says the limit is 280, but won't do anything unless you're field chronoed over 300.

260-300 FPS is accepted anywhere pretty much.

280 or it's gonna start to suck.
well you deffedently have gotta keep it under 300, you mite notece some curves if your shooting close to it, keep velocity as high as you can with no curves and not going over 280-300.
NOTE: Its unlikely you break a mask and hurt someone event at high velocity, but if it dose happen the victim cant sue the mask company but they can sue you, so keep it down.

the indoor field near me is 250
ya, alot of time indoor fields are 250, because of the bunkering

indoor fields keep it between 240 and 260 because its actualy a smaller area of play. if it was because of bunkering, then outdoor speedball fields would require those speeds aswell.

Speedball: (depending on field size) 250 or so can still be effective.

Just try to stay under 300, anything over 300 could be dangerous

let us thank God for thy chronograph.
Over 300 on a 98 custom can cause breech breaks... i made that mistake and didnt realize it until after having shot about 20 shots... my breech and barrel connection was oozing with paint... to say the least... thank God it didnt go back into the valve, It also may have been due to the rain but still it can cause breech breaks with it over 300.
