im gonna get into speedball, i havent gotten a chance to play for my first time cuz i broke my legs but im getting my gear in like may so no biggie. im gonna start playing about february march so thats not an issue. i sadly have never had a gun before. my price range is like 350-400 so do u think itd be good to dish out that much for a starter gun. (say i loved the sport with a dying passion)

$350 for gear and gun or just gun? If that's just for the gun, Epiphany and Proto Rail are your two best bets. If that's for all your gear, that should be enough cash to get you an Ion and a Halo, not to mention a half decent tank. Might wanna spend a bit more on the tank though and get a good fiber wrap.

Well, I suppose it's better than laughing at you for having a crappy $100 gun. But yeah, gun only, I would probably get an Epiphany, Rail, or maybe that new Mini....but that thing is almost too small. I like my guns small, but that thing is tiny.

I would get the Mini or Rail. Epiphany...eh. All that's different from the Ion is a body kit and reg cover, feedneck, Freak Jr., and a firing chamber. So basically a flashy Ion. The PMR is hella fast. But loud. Here's a vid of it. http://youtube.com/watch?v=khknN8yjC0E&mode=related&search=
Here's the Mini. http://youtube.com/watch?v=d_wo7uE1mUQ

pmr is a bit of a gas hog, but mini is soooo tiny, some people might consider it uncomfortable. Heres a list of guns you can find (new and used) in your price range:
-Mini
-PMR
-Pm5
-Dm4
-Epiphany
-Shocker
-Freestyle
-04 borg
Just try some guns out and buy what you like the best. People shouldn't make fun of you for having a $350 gun as a first, more and more people are getting into the sport with expensive gear. That and $350 isn't really much money nowadays, what is that like 2 paychecks at Taco Bell?

the first gun i started speedball with was a smart parts impulse, i love it. Its a bit larger then other guns, buts its really reliable and theres tons of after market parts availible

yea i know... so do you think people will gimme s**t about having it?As long as you don't bring an attitude with it, you should be fine. There is nothing wrong with having a nice first marker- it will actually save you money in the long run because you're not wasting $100+ on that first crappy gun. I would do it, as long as you are 100% you are going to stick with the sport for a while. (Also in the future, please use other choice words as swearing is against the rules).

Considering that out-of-the-box Ions shoot 17 bps, I don't think you can argue that the promaster shoots twice as fast lol. Besides, even if it did, begginners shouldn't be shooting 30 bps...

bunkerbuster007. Fields only let you use semi anyways. So even though the ProMaster is capped at 15 and uncapped in semi it doesn't matter. They averaged the Pro's ROF's and it was 11 BPS average. Now unless if you're ramping that's when the ProMaster has an advantage. So unless if you can shoot past 17 BPS both guns will go the same speed. Plus he has $0-$400 to spend. Why spend it on a ProMaster when you can buy a better performing Rail or Mini?

ok heres what i did in speedball get a tippy 98c or some low end gun and then get really good and show every one up. don't take from no one.

but then agian if a newb has a dm4 or some high end gun and can't back it up with some skill they will herass you till u end up quitting. so if u get a high end gun you need to back it up. thats why a newb should get a low end spyder or tippy mabye even an ion but don't through down 300-400 dollars on a kick @$$ gun and then get herassed its not worth it.

Agreed. Get the gun you like best, then learn how to shoot the people who make fun of you in the back 12 times while bunkering them.
Problem solved.

it's impossible for anyone to shoot 30bps in semi in fact lol
I'd say an Ion with a VLocity or VLocity Jr.. The setup that I have on my Ion (in my sig) costs exactly $380: perfect for your (and my) price range. It rocks, too: its light, fast, tough, and highly upgradeable.

that would be pointless, he's got $400 for the gun alone, why buy something cheap? He could get a rail/mini/freestyle or something and he won't need to upgrade for a long time (if he ever does). I wish I had saved up $400 when I started, I could have had a really nice gun and I wouldn't have become a gun whore.

I started speedball with a tippy 98...got destroyed and upgraded to a DP Fusion. High end performance for the price of 350. The most appealing part about it besides teh 25+ bps speed was it's ridiculously simplistic maintenance. 1/4 turn of the ram cap, pop the bolt out, take the ram out, lube pop back in mow some muppets. DP's customer service is the best in the business and I absolutely love my marker. My recommendation is the Fusion...of course.

My gun was around $600+(Mag) all together and I'm new ^_^. But yeah, I'd say go with a Fusion, PMR, mini or maybe even a used upped imp.

IMO, the Ion performs the same as alot of guns in the $3-400 range. If you want a little more expensive, go for an Epiphany (sp.) or a used Shocker...

If this is a first for you and you are willing to dish out that much money so you aren't laughed at atleast get a mechanical marker. Eaiser to maintnance and can take more of a beating. But if all you're worried about is being laughed at imagine being the kid in shorts and a t-shirt with a 50 dollar marker and walking around with pink hair from someone shooting in a large arc.
But most non-noob mature players will help you before they laugh, don't worry. (Knows from a long time ago experience)

If by "performs the same as" you mean "shoots as fast" than of course, but the overwhelming majority of people who own freestyles/shockers/pimps/fusions/pmr's/mini's/dm4's will tell you flat out that they would prefer their marker over an ion due to its cheap construction, poor reliability and cheap looks. Its a beginner marker, nothing more. Also, I seriously doubt (although I could be wrong) that the epiphany will be much better than the ion. The shocker is a good move though, they can be found for extremely cheap and upgrades for them are all over the place, not to mention SP has great techs at their booths.

Theyre like a pm6 but with a slightly cheaper/ less pieces construction and theyre a major gas hog, I saw one get a hopper and 3 pods off a 68/45.
