Hello, today i played Woodsball at my uncle's house. I used my Spyder Sonix, with Rocking Trigger, Revolution loader and Progressive 14 inch barrel. The weather was perfect, it was warm, for a December day in New York City. The first couple of games everything was going fine, i got a couple of kills, one from about 50 yards away. But as the day worn on it, my shots were decreasing in range and accuracy. My shots were curving viciously to the point where i couldnt see where the shot was going, in broad daylight. I used a 9 oz and 20 oz CO2 tanks. I didnt understand why my shots werent going straight. Does anyone know what happened?

either your velocity was to high, or it was cold [p.s i live about 1 hour from nyc and it was cold today] And due to the fact that c02 isnt really cosistant causing velocity spikes. Which make your ball curve

There might of been a layer of oil/paint on the paintballs that slowly built up on the inside of your hopper/barrel.

I've had that happen to me with my sniper. In the begening of the day, I had perfect accuracy, but near the end, I was geting some swerving, and when I checked my barrel there was some oil in it. I don't think it was oil from my marker, because I oiled it a few outings before that and I didn't have the problem.

X-Chambers help to level that out a bit... and keep the gun shooting even in the cold... i'd recomend getting a new one if you already have one... and it may of been the velocity
but i recomend the Dead On X-Core 8 stage chamber... it works great on my ole' 98.

Would me switching to HPA eliminate the need for me to get an X-chamber? Would i still need to buy a regulator for an HPA tank? Is this correct?

Yes, you wouldn't need an expansion chamber then.

Spyders (except the new VS line) are supposed to be run at ~800psi stock so you would not need a regulator. Just make sure you buy a High Pressure HPA tank.

If your balls were hooking and curving the likely culprit is that you broke a ball at some point (or chopped one) in the barrel causing the following ones to hook and spin.

It could be any of the problems above. Next time that happens, just run a squeegee through the barrel. If that doesn't fix it, make sure you're shooting under 300 fps (260-285 is the conventional range for blowbacks because of the normal velocity spikes). If you want to get HPA, make sure it's the high pressure output (as stated above), otherwise you'll never get your marker shooting above 220 without a ton of new parts and fiddling with springs. You wouldn't need an X-chamber or regulator with HPA and you'd see much better consistency, and there'd be no real difference playing in summer or winter, except for the part where you get cold.

I'm thinking of getting a two 48 3000 tanks or just one 45 4500 tank. Now if i am shooting over 300 FPS, what do i do to adjust this (Velocity adjuster?) and how would i know if it was under 300?

Use a chronograph to measure how fast the paint is flying. Yeah, you use the velocity adjuster to screw around with the velocity (of course). If it's exactly like my buddy's old spyder (I think it was a sonyx), it'd be a triangular knob on the bottom tube at the back of your marker (the tube where the ram, spring, and shim go in). Screw it in to raise velocity, out to lower. You can kind of tell if it's under 300fps by the sounds of it, as it gets quite a bit louder when it's shooting hot, but don't try and sub out a chrono for your ear, it's just something that can hint as to how high you're shooting, and let you know if you should re-chrono. If you play a lot of woodsball it's a good idea to invest in your own hand-held chronograph.

Do you know the ideal velocity for a Spyder Sonix? Whats the range?

with any blowback marker the ideal velocity is about 270
that lets it stay under 300 when you get those nasty CO2 spikes, and you still get the most range.
Effective range for any marker is about 125-150 feet, but you're really only accurate to ~65 feet, depending on a bunch of other factors that I'll not get into right now.

I'm using an HPA tank tho. Will the velocity still be the same at 270?

270 is the velocity. 270fps with CO2 = 270fps with HPA.

^^yea.... 270FPS a.k.a. Velocity...

remember also, (this just came to mind knowing that ur a newbie) everytime u take apart ur gun to clean it and put it back together the velocity can change. which is why everytime you go to the field they chrono ur marker. Please don't assume cuz u adjusted it one time that's the way it's going to stay. Using an HPA u will probably have a steadier velocity because the output pressure stays the same. they are easier to work with.
