I though it was pretty awesome. This is where paintball started.

Man, paintball was really different. I remember when I was a kid walking down the road and found a paintball and brought it home. Nobody in my family knew what it was. Now I have thousands of them all over the house. Lol.

Uh...that's not quite where it "started." In '95 it was far from what it is today, but it was definately a different game than it was in the '80s.
You want an early clip? Here's an early clip. Tyger labelled this as '85, but due to some of the markers visible, he's off on his date a bit. It's currently believed to be in '87, I believe, due to an article of the same game in an early APG.

ABC obviously dramatized the story a bit, so you might as well ignore them.

Wow, both those videos are prehistoric. Look at the goggles in the first video... they are... goggles.
In the second one there are no real hoppers. Only tubes and ugly pod like things.

A lot of people do. I actually like the really long vert stick feeders and oil can hoppers. They really knew how to fire their pumps fast eh?
Found a good write-up on paintball's history. No it is not my work.

Well I have a picture of a Brass Eagle Nightmare and a Brass Eagle Angel V6. Brass Eagle didn't maike the Angel V6 WDP did but Brass Eagle distributed it under their name in the USA. Also a Nelspot 707, and a SMG-68, and of course an early Autococker. No none of these markers are mine.

Just thought they're all cool guns. Maybe this should be the "offical vintage paintball thread"?

Here ya go... for the record: I do have newer guns too. But this has served me well for many years. I used to run it with a 12 gram adapter & a 15 shot column feed, but dont have pics of that setup.http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n30/inkspitter/Paintball/pmi2.jpg

I also started playing in 86. Still have the SplatMaster Rapide that I used back then. I have, over time acquired a Pre 2K PGP, PMI (or Sheriden??) Piranha Long Barrel pump, and an original SplatMaster. All are still in my possession and still function properly.

Two of my oldies, one from the 80s, one from the early 90s;

I'm not the original owner of either, but both are now in my posession and still perform nicely.

^^^^^^ The first one looks like trash but the second one looks really nice... where does the Co2 screw in? Or do they use the little 12 gram catrages?

3000 paintballs!?!? Hundreads of dollars a gun? They formed teams? Man this crappy sport will never take off.

They're both backbottle. There is a CCI bucket changer on the first marker, but it screws into the ASA. The first that "looks like trash" as you put it is the far better of the two, a Taso Devastator. It's worn because of its age, that doesn't mean it's trash by any means. The second marker is a PMS Brute, which was manufactured in Brazil in the early 90s. They perform nicely, but the quality is definately below that of the other. Don't judge a book by its cover.
Those are my two "vintage" markers. I never really use either, I generally use a Phantom.
Edit: Doesn't really look like "trash," anyway. It looks like a used marker with wear and ano fading. It's actually in excellent condition, no visible scratches, just rubbing.

Well the thing is I never siad that the quality/performance was trash I only siad that the look of it was trash...
