I am considering getting a Tippman Custom and was wondering if the ACT was worth the extra $30.00. Thanks.

I had a problem with the o-ring on my ACT gun (rear bolt), but pretty sure that it was the o-ring and not the design.
I've owned my Tippmann 98 for years. I have put a lot into it and try to keep from chopping as hard as I can. Every once in a while, an accident happens (I also have the Flatline which is affected by any type of break). Once I got my 98 Custom working after the o-ring problem (there was also plastic shavings in the valve), the gun doesn't chop, even with the response trigger. If I could have got a design like this when I bought my older Tippmann, I would have in a heartbeat.

I've own both ACT and non ACT. Heres how I see it. If you want to shoot 20+ bps, get a ACT. If not, get the regaler one. The reason is because the ACT uses more gas, does not operate as smoothly as a non ACT, and can't accept some accessories. I'm replacing my internals with non ACT internals to smooth things up, replace the rear bolt with lighter one, lower operating presser, get a faster cycle and use a spring kit with a RVA. I think it's a good idea but fails in design.

I have 2 98's...one with ACT and an e-grip, one just straight mech.
The ACT in no way, shape or form effects your gas efficiency at all, and if someone can prove it does, link me.
I like the ACT, it's a simple solution that really works.

It takes more air to operate because it doesn't slide as smoothly as a non ACT and having that extra spring in there for the ACT strengthens the impact on the valve thus releasing more air.
To prove this you would need two STOCK 98c one being ACT, and the other non ACT. Unscrew the VA until it is flush with the inside of the power tube on both makers. Now shoot both over a radar gun. The ACT should have a noticeably higher FPS. I don't have a radar gun to use, so this is all in theory.

IMO, the ACT isn't worth $30 extra. I had no problems with a non-ACT version, so unless you are getting an RT or e-trigger, it isn't necessary.

i think the act is better because it accepts more upgrades and rarely chops, although regular ones with out act dont chop much either. the act also has a little less internals, so it might make cleaning a little easier. basicly, the act is like the newer version of a car, it's the same thing with new parts.
