View Full Version : Breaking paint in the Barrel Possible HPA??

I recently purchased a Pure Energy 88CI/4500 HPA tank. Since then I have been having problems breaking balls in the barrel. I have the J&J Edge Barrel Kit and I have tried all five back and all three fronts on my A5. I seem to break paint in all of them. It is also not limited to one brand of paint. I have tried Marbelizer, Diablo Heat and another field paint I got from my local shop. I am sure one of the boxes of paint was crap so we can throw that one out, but i still have some problems. Also the gun cronos at 285 or less.
Is it possbile that the HPA is putting out too much pressure? If so, how can I test this to see if it is the problem with the tank?
Another thing I am thinking is that the maybe ball latch on my A-5 is worn out.
Any thoughts.

Your chopping paint.
Its not your HPA. The more pressure used to fire the paintball, the faster it goes.
Are you slinging paint?

You might want to look into getting higher flowing hoses for your Cyclone. It sounds like the pressure of the HPA is enough to fire the ball, but not enough to fully cycle the Cyclone every shot.
Like the Cpt. I'm guessing this is happening when you've got the gun really slinging paint.

If it were a problem with my cyclone I would expect to have paint in the cyclone or the chamber. This is not the case. The break is only in the barrel.

Then it is your paint (unlikely after 3 different kinds, try another two, even if only 25 shots each) OR your barrel is damaged (look down your barrel pointing towards a light to see if their is any visible scratches etc).

Try the stock barrel maybe? You are sizing the paint to the correct back I'm guessing, otherwise that might do it. My friend bought a kit and didn't know what he was doing, broke paint all day because the insert was too small...

Sounds like the paint you are using, or a problem with your cyclone to me. I had similar problems with my 98 when I first put a cyclone on it. The cyclone was feeding delayed shots, and I was chopping mid-cycle into the barrel and not the front bolt. The problem was that my cyclone was not getting good enough airflow to function properly. Bigger banjos and a bigger line did the trick. You could have the same problem. HPA should not do that.
Or, you could always have your ball detent in backwards. I have done that before unknowingly :P

Actually its more likely a tippman on HPA will do that. If the tank is adjustable I would tweak it to put out an extra 100 to 150 psi. Or swicth back to a co2 tank and see what the results are. I am bettin that the marker on co2 works like a champ.
Assuming your sig is real and not some fanboys wishlist (but to be honest it reads that way)
Tippman A-5
WAS Egrip
J&J Edge Barrel Kit
30mm BSA Red Dot Sight
88CI/4500 Pure Energy on remote
Vortex Cyclone Feed
X-7 Hopper
Then you already have half what I might reccomend for better cyclone action. I would try adding a lightening rod and a QEV , but unless you are going over 16 to 17 bps just the vortex ratchet should be fine.

Trust me its not a wishlist...
I also have a Flatline barrell, Shocktech Superfly Bolt and carbine stock, but I thought that might be a bit gaudy to list. I have a picture posted
I posted a pic of it if you would like to see:

I have the BPS set at 12 on my WAS. I am gonna try some different paint, and see how that does. If I still have problems I will try a different line. Thanks for all the help.

Hi
When I changed to HPA with my A5 I had problems with the cyclone.
It wouldn't work right on air but worked fine on CO2.
I found that changing the oring on the piston that turns the cyclone fixed the problem. CO 2 seems to have more pressure.
If this doesn't fix it. Send your tank back and ask them to turn it up to 900 to 950 psi.
They have been turning up the reg for flatline owners who have problems hitting 280 fps. Because of the large dia. Barrels.
I hope this solves your problem.
