View Full Version : Super-upped A-5, worth it? Where can it be used?

Yeah.
By no means is this necessary, just something I'd like to do/have in the long run. Say I upped an A-5 with the following:
Vortex/QEV Cyclone Mods (? Or both?)
E-grip (duh)
Double Trigger
Drop Forward
Carbon Fiber Tank
A-5 Threaded Speed Barrel (Suggestions?)
After putting all this on my A-5, in your opinion, would it be "usable" in rec and speed? Would it be light enough and fast enough for speed, yet durable and hardy enough for scenario or rec?
Also, would these upgrades be WORTH putting on an A-5? Or would a higher-end marker with less ups be a better idea?

Those mods are all good, the vortex kit/qev isn't needed much unless you are going to be using full auto or ramping all the time.
Working out the cost it would be around say $500 or more. Iall depends on your preference and how or where your going to play.
If you like scenario/woodsball, Id recommend an a-5 with most of these ups because it will be more durable say if smacked against a tree or rock.
If your more into speedball, you should probably go for a high-end marker that is lighter and faster. But the durability is less and you risk breakage if you take it out to the woods and drop it ect..
Also if you decide to go the a-5 route get a jcs dual trigger, i have one and love it.

I agree, but for the barrel I would get a J&J ceramic or a Freak kit. Go with the kit if you have the money or go with the J&J if you don't. They both are nice barrels so take your pick.

so you wanna make it light from scenario to speed
both vortex and qev feed ya like about 25-30 in that area
yeah egrip id guess any kind probably not that 30 bps was board since its probably "too" fast and your cyclone cant feed that much
double trigger yes
drop foward probably, but i donno i havent had an a-5 as a speedball
i use it for woods :], this is the reason i got a dp fusion for
carbon fiber tank probaby id guess you should since your going to speed balling but i would personally get a different gun i mean tippmann is like metal
barrel probably id agree on the freak since thats probably the only barrel that can fit on a a-5 with inserts i believe, other then changing your barrel threads

and if your gonna spend money like thats alot of money personally,
id probably get a cheap gun that is fit for speedball like an ion or a fusion i had/have those pretty good id say i mean ions used are aobut 140 which is like a egrip and a vortex mod then you probably want an egg which is like another 30 bucks on pbn 40-50 with z board
umm a new barrel is probably cost the same price as usual
same thing for the tank
and it comes with double trigger
but im just saying

Actually, I have a PMR.
Hahaha, I just thought it would be cool to have an A-5 as a secondary. Rather than having my primary, secondary, then another scenario gun (I play speed and scenario), I was hoping I'd be able to have my primary (PMR), then my secondary could play speed or scenario.
In this case, would the forementioned A-5 be a good idea? Oh, and would it be tourney-legal?

oh a Pmr!
well thats something different :P
a-5 id say you could and its able for speedball
but its not really what it was made for.
it should be tourney legal
then yeah
if you want a secondary for speed get an ion no doubts about it
my friend has a sponser through lucky
his 5 stage ion is pretty good

Any marker that shoots is suited for scenario, but not every marker that shoots is suited for speedball. You have to put that into perspective. Unless you already have the A-5, I would suggest getting another e/p to get the most bang for your buck (excuse the pun). Heck, for the price of the ups you are planning on getting for the A-5, you could buy another [used] Matrix.

Not quite true, a scenario gun HAS to be reliable and able to take a beating. Instead of a drop and tank on the gun, might I suggest a remote?

Even if you get an '02 or '03 Trix, they're dirt cheap and dollar for dollar are some of the best guns you can buy. Consider that you can get one of these older Matrices, in good condition, pretty much fully upgraded, with ramping software or whatever you might want for tournaments probably for $400 or less. The only issue you'll have is efficiency, as I'm sure you've found with the PMR spool valve guns are not the most efficient in the world, but it will be blazing fast and very accurate.
Another good crossover choice might be an Automag, they too sell well below their value.

if you are thinking about like airball sorts of stuff, i would suggest something else. for the price of all those upgrades to an a5 you could probably find a very well performing airball gun. I'm in the boat right now of looking for an airball/backup gun right now cause the a5 isn't very good in that area. But if you are looking for like a rec/speedball/scenario gun, the a5 rocks
btw on the barrel, i own a 2006 14" progressive that i love. yes it is cheaper, but it still performs very well - full review in the barrels review part of pbreview

o wait u got a pmr already. my bad, yea for that kind of stuff an a5 would be good and i think (don't quote me on this) but the egrip would make it tourney legal. look for a rampage board for the egrip though
