I need you guys to help me out here...

Basically I wanted an A5, but it does cost quite a bit of money and i'd have to buy Co2/Air tank, hopper etc, for it. Thats obviously going to rack up to quite an amount of money.

I came across a Tippmann 98c ACT marker package, which for £187 you get:
Tippmann 98 Marker with new Anti-Chop Technology
200 Shot Capacity Hopper
JT Elite Radar Mask
H18 5 Pot Battle Pack
20oz Co2 Bottle
Barrel Sock
Battle Swab
H18 Protective Neck Guard
Free Shipping
5 pots and 500 paintballs

The A5 package itself has the marker but a lot less with it, it also costs about £100 more. I've heard the Tippmann98 is agood beginer marker so do you guys think I should go for the 98c?
Also what do you think about the other stuff in the package, for example is the mask any good? I'd never heard of that mask before:confused:
I also opted to get the Smart parts 14" progressive barrel is that a good choice?

Anyway thanks for your help:)

I'd stay away from tippys. They're durable guns yeah but performance wise they just suck. I'd try to get a spyder pilot if you can they are better guns then any tippy.

An ion owner saying tippmanns suck, the irony.Buy the package for what ever you said the cost was(i dont know euros). Ask the dude whos selling the gun if it has any ups, like an expansion chamber, barrel it has,the condition of it. And iliveforthis99 shut up.

I think you need to know someone before you bash them. I’ve owned a 98c for almost 5 years now and from experience w/ it it's nothing but a pain. Stock parts suck, performance sucks, not very many worth getting upps, etc. You put so much into that by the time you wise up and realize it you could have just gotten a pilot acs and have a better gun for less money. Tippys are no longer a hot thing to have w/ inexpensive electros and even cheaper mechs out now.

Like Iliveforthis99 said, go with a spyder. Tippys are durable, but that's it. Eppster, don't try to be e-cool. He's not a typical ion owner. He's one of the rare smart ones.

Well I'll be playing Woodsball/Recball, I was told that tippmanns are very good for those kind of paintball games. Can anyone send me links to sites with the other paintball markers they'd recommend please :)

I say go ahead with the tippmann 98, I've never seen anyone have problems with them. They work fairly good too

If you play woodsball, definitely go with that package.

You sir should not be such an idiot. If you actually were active in the forums than you would know iliveforthis99 is way smarter than you. You joined in December 06 which is just 2 months. We also don't tell others to shut up when they know a lot more.

Wow.....

OK . tippys are more of a preferance than anything else.
They are not as horrible as people will have you think.
The 98 is a decent design, and it can take abuse like no other marker out there. Its definately designed to be a low maintance marker.
And tippys retain thier value, so you can ebay it off later and get almost what you paid for it towards a new marker.

I like and use an A-5 because the cyclone obviates the need for a high end hopper. Granted my tippy has key performance ups and this was not cheap.(Rampage board, HPA,Freak kit, QEV, Vortex)

A spyder is generally my last reccomendation. I have taken several spyders to decent levels of perfmance, and my experience has been that they just aren't worth the investment.

the 98 custom is a great chose that is what i have but not so much ups. the price might be much but threw all the ups you would save lots of c02 threw the years.

I liked the A-5 a lot, but I also thought it was too expensive. I ended up buying a PCS US-5. PCS is a division of PMI that is trying to edge in on Tippy's share of the woodsball/recball market. It is very similar to an A-5, with the same general looks, and will take a lot of A-5 accessories. It doesn't have the cyclone, and is also about $75 cheaper than the A-5.

I haven't had it for that long, so I can't speak of the long-term durability of it, but the US-5 certainly feels well built, it is solid like a rock. It isn't the best marker out there, but I could buy it and everything else I would need and not break the bank.

I opted for the US-5, a 48/3k HPA tank, cheapo hopper, and Proto Swtich thermal gogs. I wanted air because of the consistency, and good goggles to stop fogging (a big problem when I rented). But overall this ran me about $350, and I probably could have saved $50 if I bought online, but I like to go into a store and hold and try the stuff before I buy, and I'll pay extra for that.

If you are going to say you hate something please state multiple reasons to answer the persons question. I think Josh should start out with a spyder pilot so he can get familiar with an electronic marker. If he goes to a field he will be able to better compete against other guns.

Unless if you're always tinkering with the gun trying to do home modifications, having an electric trigger makes the gun no less durable. It actually made my Sonix more durable since the stock trigger frame is plastic.

kyle p8ntballer The 98's now are one the worst guns to get. They're more then a pilot cost and have awful performance even when upped. You have to so much money into them to actually make them semi-good and by then you could have just gotten a better gun. And the fact that there's really not a lot of upps for it further degrades it.
