Hey guys
I know this is a hard question to answer, but I have a difficult choice to make.
either I buy a cheap 48/3000 metal tank and play this month with my new gun or I buy a 48/4500 or 68?(i think)/4500 tank but don't play for another month or two. I really want to play this month but what I am worried about is .... will I need to leave the game in progress often because a 48/3000 tank runs out before the game ends?
aka ... approximately how many shots will a promaster get from each tank.
also .. the metal tank is heavy, I didn't believe it when everyone told me but it is ... how much heavier is it full?
thanks guys, I'm sure I'll stop answer questions once my gun is actually in my hands!

My 68/45 is lighter then a 20oz Co2 tank, and it only cost me $150 it has no leaks or anything and I bought it brand new from http://www.xtremepaintball.com/ .
It's a PMI most people don't trust them but I have had no troubles with their stuff in the past.
It is definitely worth it for the more air. Of course if you are playing front it won't really matter, thats the only situation in which the smaller tank won't matter.
IF however you are playing woodsball, back or mid, you are going to want at least a 68/45, I'm not sure exactly how many shots you will get but theres an average for most ram/poppet guns... I'm going to say around 1300-1500 shots off of a 68/4.5k... and a few hoppers out of a 48/3k, don't quote me on that though.
Depending on how much you shoot a game is how you are gonna want to judge for what tank. Also if you find a liking to having really light gear you're most likely going to want a Carbon Fiber tank, not a steely.
Thats my take.

47/3000=550-600 shots
45/4500=800-900 shots
68/4500=1200-1400 shots
i like a 45/4500 because its really lightweight, but you get plenty of shots for a speedball game, especially if youre a front player. id go with the 45/4500 its my personal favorite. theres no reason to carry the excess weight around while playin front.

Ah well its really hard to say how many shots I NEED, I don't think I've every gone through more than 600 a game with my m98 but I'm thinking that the promaster ... well ... uses more paint haha.
so really I think I will probably get a 68/4500. I don't want a heavy 45/3000, besides I want to beable to shoot more than that a game. and the 45/4500 doesn't make much sense to me since the 68/4500 is only $50 more (CAD) and shoots about twice as much and I'm not so much of a front player.
I think I've got a good idea, thanks ... means I won't be playing this month, lol. :(

Well how much money do you plan on spending because, this is a good deal right here...

That is a good deal ... about $100 bucks less than local, but I'd kinda like to buy it from my local proshop so I can get advice and such ... and not wait any longer. Because I'm still not entirely sure about the lp/hp thing lol.

HP + Promaster = All you're going to want to use.

Yes? I keep hearing that ... I just don't understand it. Promaster is an lp marker but hp is better for it? heh

Where you hear that its an LP marker?

maybe I am mis reading what they are trying to say
http://www.icdpaintball.com/products/promaster/promaster.html
PROMASTER™ Specifications:
Low Pressure operation

Most markers operate around that pressure, HPA has a faster recharge rate then LPA, all that means is that the air inside the gun is lower pressure. The regulators take care of that... I think the only kind of marker you will want to use LPA on are Angels.

alright, well that makes things much more simple. Maybe I will buy it online .... I'll have to think about it.
thanks a lot. I hate to ask so many questions but I don't want to kill my first electro marker before I get to enjoy it! hehe

the PM is a low pressure operation marker, but that doesn't mean it needs a LP tank. if a gun is low pressure that just refers to the pressures the gun itself runs at (most guns now are low pressure except blowbacks), not the tank. the only guns you need LP for are really old bushies and certain model Angels, and that is only because of the stock inline regs, not the guns themselves.
That is indeed a good deal for a PMI tank. I'd say get the tank online if it saves you money. you dont need advice on a tank from your shop. With a gun I'd understand (even though most shops give biased advice because they're trying to sell you stuff). But its a tank, they all do the same thing, its preset so you dont need to mess with it, and the tank is probably the most reliable part of your setup. if you ever need help with it you'll just end up dealing directly with the manufacturer anyway.

Couldn't of said it better, if you got questions when you get the marker just post in here to save room for other threads ;)
I probably won't able to help tho, I'm a bushy guy http://geolit.org/rushranch/RR_images/Coyote%20Bush1.jpg

I use a lp tank and have no problems at all. I have a 45/45 pmi lp. It is a perfect match for the promaster. the recharge rate should occur in the hpr

alright, after I posted that last comment I kind of thought it might be something like that. Makes things a little more simple though.
Will do, thanks.

Here is something ... I'm noticing that an 88cui/4500 tank is consistantly cheaper than a 68/4500 tank. Am I missing something?
lotus_esprit5
02-25-2007, 08:10 PM
yep, thats because they're larger and heavier and you don't need the extra capacity that it offers unless you're playing a 24 hour scenario game or something and refilling requires a looooooong walk to the air station.
basically very few ppl use tanks larger than a 68, so tanks larger than 68 are probably cheaper because of less demand. you dont need the extra shots per fill it gives you, so why lug it around when something smaller will do?
the_binary_soul

alright, though it seems like they shouldn't be CHEAPER than a 68, they should atleast be the same price. arg, I don't want to run around with a 88cui tank, but I dont want to pay more for less! lol. Man I wish I had money
lotus_esprit5

think of it this way: less weight is a good thing! so sometimes its ok to pay more for less!
ever notice how 45ci tanks and 68ci tanks are usually close, if not the same price? thats because its kind of an equal tradeoff: less weight, or more capacity, and which you choose is personal preference. with the 88 the tradeoff IMO is not so equal, thus it is priced less. unless you care waaaaaay too much about walking to the air station for a refill, its not as good a deal as the smaller tanks, since the smaller tanks will offer you all the shots per fill you need AND be lighter.

Yeah lotus pretty much has it, I think it also is because less people buy the 88/45 and hence their production rate doesn't have to be that high
;)
supply and demand 101...

hmm, so what do you think about a kingman 68/45 tank. I'm hearing a lot of mixed things about them.
If I have to replace it in 3 years or something thats not a big deal, but if it damages my gun at all .... well you know.
akathewolf
02-27-2007, 08:06 AM
Didn't know they made kingman tanks... oh well gotta go, at school.
the_binary_soul
02-27-2007, 08:28 AM
Yup, a little cheaper than Pure Energy and a decent bit cheaper than Crossfire. Thing is, there are reviews here that say the threads start to chip off and get worn out ... and I like to store my marker with the tank off, so I take it on and off a fair bit. I can get one locally and it will still be cheaper than anything I can get online.
I'm thinking though a little careful handling, and oiling should keep it in good condition. I worried about bits of metal or some such getting into my gun though. :( that would be most unfortunate.
akathewolf
02-27-2007, 07:35 PM
Eh, you can buy thread protectors ;)
and just store it where it won't get bumped and be careful when screwing it on and taking it off. Oh now that I think about it yeah Kingman tanks, they have weird sizes.

heh sounds good.
Wierd sizes as in cui or physical size?

They were the first people i'd seen to make like a 68/3000. It just seemed weird.

68/3000 are quite common. a kingman tank will do ya fine as long as you take care of it.

Alright so I got my promaster in and got out to play a few rounds at my local indoor field ....
soo ... first off. The stock feedneck is CRAP. sorry but really, but egg sits completely loose in it, no biggie though my local shop is looking into becoming a supplier of CCM parts then I can get a new clamping feedneck.
I had some problems with leaking ... at first I thought the regs were leaking because I thought I could hear it near the guns pressure gauge. Then a little later it seemed to me that the tank was leaking at the ASA so I replaced the o ring and oiled it a little. So now when I screw in the tank I can't hear any leaking but I can't fire it to test it either and before it wouldn't leak untill I had started shooting a little. so that may or may not be fixed.
Majorly though, and I think this is the hoppers fault because I was pre-warned, is that sometime a ball wont be fed into the chamber! It just gets stuck in the feedneck just above the chamber. that happened to me twice in the course of about 1000 rounds but since I had to tape the hopper in place it was not something I could fix easily and I had to call myself out of the game.
sooo, if you want to give me a Pulse Loader I would be happy to accept, lol, because I think that is the only way to fix that problem.
Other than those little snags thought I loved it! Nice light trigger (though I spent a good while trying to adjust it to my liking), fires quick, its nice and light, and doesn't kick. Looks real nice to haha

Alright question of the day from me. does this seem worth this much for this tank?
