I was in the review section and someone was saying that they had the 2nd generation flatline. They said that it had a blue tip on it and was easier to install. But, that was it, they were kinda vague on it. I posted over on the tippmann forums, they had heard of it, and one person said they think it has a metal shroud. But, that was the extent of thier knowledge. Does anyone know anything about this? How it's different, better, ect.?

I'm going to go pm that guy who wrote the review and see if he can't post a pic over here.

No luck with the pm. Got a prompt that said that "Frigganjoyce" is an invalid user name.

Is it? I guess I should e-mail tippmann to find out.

The Tippmann ProShop has a metal shroud for the Flatline now. I wrote them and suggested last year that they improve the plastic, making it stronger, or even a lightweight aluminum for durability and maybe even a sling mount. I like the 24 hour and 48 hour games, and a sling and ruggedness are important to me. I guess I wasn't the only one who thought so. It doesn't have a sling mount, but it's still nice. Polishable for you flashy guys too!

so does the new metal shroud effect performance any? does it make it shoot better or is it strictly for durability and looks?

The second generation Flatline they are reffering to is the AGD Flatline HPA tank...

metal shroud is dumb. all shroud on flatline is dumb. its just make it harder to take your flatline off and squeegee it. just leave the fricken shroud off, you get MUCH better performance.

One thing I have never understood is why certain people take off the barrel to squeegie the flatline. You see that front sight on your gun? Press it down!! Tilt the hopper down!! then run the squeegie through!! You don't think that tippmann added that thing on there as a benign feature, with no use whatsoever, do you?

Oh, lostinthewoods, if you go to the flatline reviews, scroll down about half way and look for the review by "Frigganjoyce", then you'll see that I am not talking about the AGD tank.......and you rolled your eyes at me:)

Sorry Mimos, my bad.... I called Tippmann about this issue. They told me that some Flatlines were recently sent out with tips annodized to match the other GTA accessories. There is nothing else differant about the barrels. They are normal Flatlines with colored muzzle breaks. The Tippmann rep I spoke to said there have been no changes made to the Flatline production process other than additional quality assurance checks.

and btw, i dont use the shroud because the flatline is way easier to put on straight rather than fooling with it to make it shoot good. its not so much taking it off to squeegie it, its really about putting it on good.

Yeah, I lost that litte spring once, that was a pain. Tippmann would more than likely send you one for free. I got mine free of charge. Gotta love that customer service.:)

I used to think that it was easier to align the barrel with it on, but once I took off the shroud, I was happy to see that I could align it almost perfectly w/o it.

Oh, almost forgot, thanks for the info Lostinthewoods. My e-mail isn't working as usual, so I never heard back from tippmann.

If you lose your front sight spring its not a big deal, just tighten the screw that holds the front site tight enough to hold up your hopper. I lost mine last year and still play without one today.

SHOCK SHOCK SHOCK SHOCK SHOCK
SHOCK TO THE SYSTEM.

Yes, it will work, but you need to tighen the screw by the front sight to hold it up. Then the only way to press down the front sight is to bust out your allen wrench and loosen it, not too practical during a game.
