View Full Version : Help! New A-5 and bolt won't stay cocked.

Hi,

Today, the plan was to use my A-5 (flatline barrel, double response trigger, opsgear folding stock and tactical strap). I couldn't sleep last night because I've been waiting for today and all I'm able to do is shoot one paintball at a time. I had to cock the bolt back each time in order to shoot.

So of course, my day consisted of sitting on the sidelines taking my gun apart trying to figure out why the bolt won't stay cocked.

If you have any suggestions or ideas, please help.

You mos likely put your ball detent in backwards, causing the bolt to catch on the detent. Its the orange thing just inside the hole for the cyclone.

How old is the marker?
When did it last work?
It may be a sear issue.

It does your stock have a VA? Is it too compressed to let the bolt come all the way back?

How do all the orings look?

I bought the A5 last week and haven't fully taken it apart until now. The ball detent(latch) seems to be in the way shown in the manual. Appreciate the response, let me know if you think of any other possibilities since I have my gun apart at the present moment.

Since I bought this marker last week, everything inside it looks pretty new...looking in the manual, it shows that there should be 2 valve/rear O rings (one on the end of the valve complete and one on the rear bolt). I only see the one on the rear bolt.

As for my stock, what does VA stand for? I'm not sure about how compressed it gets. I did try it without the stock on and it still wouldn't recock.

O-rings look good.

You can't "see" the second O-ring unless you take the valve out of the power tube(cheap plastic tubular thing). If you are messing that O-ring then that is most likely the case.

As for what VA mean, it means "velocity adjuster".

To be honest it would have been best if you hadn't taken it apart yet. But that can't be helped now, so don't worry about it.

Dumb question, but is your tank full?

Or vertical adaptor.

Does it just fire the single shot and that's it?
Or
Does it fire the shot and burp a little...

It may bee that the stock caused the main drive spring to not be as tense as usual...

Try putting the stock endcap on and firing.. If that fixes it, you need to get a spring kit or shim the stock spring.

Also, cock the marker slowly, does it cock easily? Does it get stuck anywhere?

*just looked in my book of tippmann issues*

The barrel adapter/front bolt... Make sure its in right and tight and the front bolt isn't getting stuck in the adapter...

All,

Thanks for the responses. First of all, my stock doesn't have a VA (now that I know what that stands for...thanks Andrew/Babustos.

TheSpy11,
Yes, my tank was full at the time.

NoelyDeeznutz,
It fires a single shot and that's it. I did try putting the stock endcap back on and that didn't work either. I'll have to put it together to try the slow cocking method. I'll ensure that the barrel adapter and front bolt are in right and tight. I'll let you all know what my results are.

Also, something I didn't mention, if I held the bolt back with my hand, the A5 would fire like it was supposed to, fyi. Talk to you later

Hmmm....

Did youdo the trigger upgrade?
Do you still have the stock single trigger?

Id so try putting the stock single trigger back in.

All,

My gun is fixed...it turned out to be the trigger (Mjr paranoid you're on it...I hadn't read your response until after we fixed my gun, but you're absolutely right). The double trigger that I had installed had a problem with the built in trigger spring. The only way to see that problem was to take the trigger apart. When we put the stock trigger back in, it worked. I think I purchase the DEAD ON double trigger for $14.99, fyi. Oh well, I rather be out of $14.99 than have a gun that don't work.

Looking forward to this weekend. I appreciate all your responses.

I had that trigger for my old A-5, it was the Dead On Blade Trigger. You just need to make sure that the spring is set right, or else it won't work. But then again that applies with all other triggers. Keep fiddling around with the Blade Trigger, and you'll get it to work.

Babustos,

Thanks for the info.
