Notice this when i started to play again.
all decked out, angel markers, egos, etc etc high end markers. with top of the line jerseys, the works.. but they cant play for ish? and i see this kids with proto rails, inverts, even ions etc etc low end markers, that can play very well.
do u notice this as well? or is it just me?
well you see now...the difference btw those two types is very simple. the peeps with all the high end stuff...dont really care for paintball and get other ppl aka parents to buy it all for them.. the ppl with the more low end stuff really want to play...cant afford top of the line stuff and so has a budget and wants to keep on playing the sport for as long as possible..instead of buying high end stuff right away (which they most probably can afford)..and being broke in a months time.

You realize that you just stereotyped anyone who owns a high-end, right?
I wouldn't call you very real if your only motive in playing is questioning whether another player is "real" or not. Let them play with what they want, and you can play with what you want, this is their sport as well as yours.

I used to play paintball but had to give it up because I couldn't afford it during university.
Now that I'm out of school and have the cash, why not buy the good stuff even if I'm not that great at the moment?
I *sort of* suck, and have higher end equipment, is that a problem?

:continues slow clap until realizing that there is nothing to clap for:
if your playing in a recball scene, the kids like that are quite common. they don't know how to play, but they make up for it by pestering their parents for expensive goodies.
this is not an absolute though. lots of people own high ends because they went through several markers below it and wanted something better.
this applies on the other hand aswell. maybe that person with the ion is still just learning, or maybe they don't have the funds or the need to upgrade.
two things to learn: don't judge a player by the way they look.
and its the player that wins, not the gun.

I see it all the time. All these peeps with $1000+ guns talking trash... lol soon to be walking off the field covered in paint. Normally it's the guys with the spyders and tippys walking off the field all smiles. I love it.
Personally what I think causes this... all these type newbs with ramping guns only really learn to make it rain paint or throw a hoppers worth at a bunker. They guys with the mech guns or slower electronic ones know they cant keep up with that and learn how to not get hit by the rain of paint and to make that snapshot count. Go fig...
This is why I send my kid to the wolves at practice with a pump. It's a good pump though... come tourney time and he gets to use one of my timmys, he'll be dependant on the skills he's learned and not the firepower.

I don't know where you are but around here the guys that play speedball w/ high-ends know what they're doing. As well as the select few that have a low-end, like me.
The people that have high-ends and play primarily woodsball are the ones that suck. And by high-ends I mean anything above a blowback.
It all depends on the person, not their type of gear.

I have a Spyder, and yeah, I think that I'm good. I just play. If you get hit by a person with a high end, it doesn't matter. You made that mistake to pop your head out, or leave a limb hanging over. I'm here to play and get my money's worth! Are you?!??!?! :-D
I play woodsball primarily, too. All those guys with high-ends, I'm not gonna lie, is throw paint away at bunkers. It does get pretty aggrevating... -_-

I'm one of the spyder shooting kids who walks off the field smiling. I have only seen 3-4 people with high-ends at my local field, mostly Ions and rentals, and some autocokcers. One guy had a SL66 and another had a normal Ego, but thats about it for top-of-the-line guns at my field.

That's quite like how I transitioned from the low-ends to the highs. I started with a basic mechanical first to get the basics down, went to a low-end electro to get more speed along with the basic skills, and then eventually to a high-end where my experience with mechanicals helps me with quick, accurate shooting instead of just spray-and-pray. Good idea there with your son, Jaster.

I originally shot a Spyder TLX, back when I was still scarerd, then moved to an Ion after 3 months of playing, still scared. I will say, I never got the basics down on my TLX. On my Ion, after getting more serious about the game, I learned all the techniques, and got over the fear most people get. I guess after getting the Ion, I figrued I could compete since my gun was electric. I was a stupid noob as you can see. However, after I got over the fear, I learned to snapshoot, then gained confidence, and am now one of the most aggressive players at my field, but also a smart player. After getting these skills on my Ion, I needed my TLX for a tournament (I was a "free agent" for the tournament, and my Ion was busted). Using what I learned, I still was effective, and held off three people with the Spyder for around 3 minutes (snapshoot left side, snapshoot right side, head check every few seconds, if clear, wait a sec for them to pop out, etc). I was taken out when one came by on a run through, but I snapped out and traded out with him.

i play rec ball for now. honestly im good within the 10 or so people i play with, but id probly get walked on if i went to a field. i used a tippmann then bought an ion a few months ago, but i havent used it yet to try out some techniques.
im sure i could hold my own....im too conservative though.

I've been shooting an M3 Black Dragun since I bought it new back in '02, saving for a cocker tho. I wear shorts, knee pads, Longsleeve/Tshirt/Beater (depending on the weather), and a pod pack.
I can hold my own for the most part...

I use a cheaper marker so that I can play paintball with the money I would have spent on a more expensive marker. I don't call myself good at the game, but I feel that at least I'm trying to be the part before I look it, and not vice versa.
I use the nicest equipment that's available to me, because at the level I play at it's preferable...
I still started out way back in the day with a BlackMaxx. Then a Victor. Then an E-99. Then a... well, you get the point.
The key? I get a paycheck. Paychecks let me acquire things. Paychecks are nice.

Welcome to PBR's self glorification thread....
I went to college. I have a well paying job. I started 10 years ago.
I have accumulated a good amount of crap.
I won't say "Yeah, I am uber leet killage," because skill is all relative.
In fact, I will go ahead and say I suck, because in comparison to others, that may just be the case.
I just wear an old jt jersey and some sweat pants.

I see all kinds.
I am older and geting fat and slow. I am not great, but not bad either.
I play woods ball with a decent marker setup.
What I do see is an intensity in the kids that have some of the lower end stuff. It is an intensity I can't bring myself to match most days.
I play for fun and do silly things.
So I can see how a third party might get the impression the OP has gotten in some cases.
But like I said, I see all types. And I have learned to never judge a player by thier marker or thier gear.
Unless they are in a fullout matching diablo or JT outfit (inlcuding doo rag and gloves) who are just wearing it for the look.
Then I snicker a little ;) . I play for fun, not to pose for fashion show shots.

I have the gear, the looks, and the skill. Oh, and I'll probably talk trash to you during the game and after it's over. Usually it's all in fun though, and if you get an attitude with me while I'm joking around, I'll just bonus ball you when we get back on the field.
But yeah, I've "paid my dues" and I was once the kid at the field with the Tracer because that's all I could afford. I later got a Maurader for Christmas one year, used that for 6 months, saved up and got an E99 and played in the woods for 3 years. Then I decided I wanted to play tournaments so I bought a BKO and RENTED HPA tanks at the field I played tournaments at. Then I bought an Ion and HPA and played more tournaments, then last year I bought a Shocker, traded that for a Proto last August, then bought another Shocker last month. Just like eff, I got a job and can now afford these things. But seriously, I only act that way towards other tourney players. I've been known to drop whatever I'm doing at my field to help some new woods player have fun and figure out how to play the game, a free mini-clinic if you will. I know that when I first started out, I had the people I looked up to at my field that helped me out, and I want to do the same. Plus I remember how it felt to finally beat those guys at my field too, haha.

I started with a Splatmaster... went through the BE guns, my killer spyder2k, jumped to timmys.
I feel a little sorry for his kid though:crazy:.
Dont feel too bad for him. When he out really playing, he gets my Texas Storm with a 45 45 and a halo... He's getting a 2k5ed Lasoya for his b-day this year.

i like jaster's idea of having his kid practice with a pump. why? for exactly the reasons he mentioned.
if you're judging a person's skills based on what gear they wear, or what guns they have, you're probably still in the beginning stages of the game, where you are the noob. once you play, wether you win or lose, you'll begin to see what the game's really about.

i agree with all of that but i have ONE counterexample. My friend, who is 15 like me got his ma to buy him a DM7. Now i know that you guys are now thinking: "Man, that kids a NOOB!!" He's got to be one of the best players i've ever played againest. But, He also started low on the chain with an A5, like I have.:) So i know there is still hope for me becoming a better pball player!

After last saturday, it's apparent that, no, i can't play paintball and, yes, i'm just out there to look good... and get shot at. If you asked anyone there, they'd probably think i never played before that day. :grumpy:
Anyway, aside from one bad day, yeah, i play for playing & not to have the greatest gear. Parents never bought me anything paintball-related because i didn't even start playing until i had my own house!
Most of the gear i do have is old or cheap (bought on clearance, although "cheap" is relative in paintball). I splurged on myself here & there, namely with my tanks & latest gun, but that's it. And it was my own hard-earned... credit limit...
I swear i work on other people's guns more than i play. This kid (fairly decked out from head to toe with blue Dye & Empire gear... nice kid, though) came up to me with his Ion, which i spent 30 minutes fixing. Then last weekend he came up to me with a PM6/7 (i don't know which one) that i also fixed. Jeebus knows what he'll have me fix next time i try to go play.

Actually..I would have to say I play paintball cause the girls totally dig it in my city. The yall over me now cause I have all de new gearz and hot gatz. So when I play I show up, blast my music in de parking lot (RATM or radiohead) get ready and walk in with some fine honies...get to de field and walk on with all new, clean gear and when de game is about to start I shak my gun and say, "wait..my gun is not working.." walk off the field and repeat that every time a game is about to start...
