Hey all, I recently purchased a new (see title) paintball marker. So far its been working fine. The only problem im having is that my balls will hang right and left quite a bit whenever I shoot (sorry if that sounds dirty.) Im thinking it might be my velocity, my friend also has a tippmann 98, not a pro a.c.t just a normal tippmann 98 and he has his velocity cranked up, so before the game he turned my velocity up alot note: I did not want him to do this. I turned it back down but ever since then the balls curve and move in weird directions. This happens when its calm out and when windy alike. Do any of you know what my problem might be and if so how I can fix it. Also, is there a reccommended velocity for the 98 custom?

2 things I can recommend,
first get a chrono and keep velocity down to 280 or so

second, smack him upside the head for playing in such a dangerous state with hsi marker, he coudl seriously injure someone.

third, get a good aftermarket barrel, the werks (which come swith the cp stock) is ok but its not great, however I didnt find bad curving on mine but still had a huge improvement with a new barrel.

fourth. what paint are you using? it may be crap paint or have a bad bore size compared to the barrel.

a chrono is something that measures your FPS

http://www.pbreview.com/products/reviews/1987/

will tell you how fast your paint is moving.

the j&j will be a nice upgrade and shoudl improve your game quite a bit. if your friend has the fps that high its possible for him to break through someones lenz and take out an eye, goggles are designed for 300 fps and a tippmann can often go well over 400. (and you loose accuracy and shots per tank)

but biggest problem is safety, dont wanna loose an eye right?

Take it to a paintball shop or field, they can chrono it for you.

Bvdave is referring to a chronograph. It is the cool little gizmo at your local field that measures the velocity your marker is shooting at. If your local field does not have a chronograph, or if you’re playing outlaw ball, I would highly suggest investing in one so that you don’t end up hurting someone. Lenses made for paintball goggles are not designed to take impacts over 300 fps (feet per second), shooting over 300 fps is extremely dangerous.

Im guessing that your problem is a result of the paint you are using. It does not matter if you are using the best barrel kit on the market, if you are using low quality paint, your accuracy will suffer. I have never heard of Visible Impact paint before, so I am not sure of its quality. Check to see if the paint you are using is greasy, oddly shaped, or has indentations in it. Old/cheap paint would definitely affect your accuracy in the manor you are describing.

If you do end up buying a new barrel, J&J barrels are definitely some of the best barrels you can get for their price.

Wait, that's 4 things you recommended him:P!

Smoo54, after you get your gun shooting around 280fps and get done hitting your friend in the back of his head, you could try polishing you barrel if you didn't want to spend more money on a new barrel. There is a chance though, you could make the bore to big and make your gun shoot worse.

ok, well im just wondering what kind of paint you would recommend for the werks barrel. I live in a rather small town and the only place I can buy paint is at walmart and canadian tire. And two local paintball shops. The only other kind of paint I've seen are the Heavy Metal paintballs. Also, im thinking of getting the J&J ceramic barrel so what would be good paint for that?

canadian tire sell rps marballizers and there top quality paintballs, but they cost an arm and a leg though. like 25.99 per 500 in cb newfoundland anyways

i dont know what kind of ball you usually play, but if you play woodsball you should probably just get a flatline, once its set right it shoots fine. some ppl mentioned paint for the barrell you should use xball, draxxus dusk, or origin for this paticular barrell, it helps a lot, espescially if your a new player, and after you tinker to get it set straight, your flying sidewayds problems will be over
