View Full Version : Bolt/Board/Solenoid update

Just got off with the phone from Mike at PBK and got an update on some things for the 07 cyborg. The new bolts are in, if you're still having roll back issues so the ball moves out of the eye range you can send in your old bolt and get a new bolt with no o-rings on it from PBK. Just remember to keep your bolt pin, you just need to send in the bolt. If you're not having roll back issues you don't have to send it in, though I'm told this bolt helps increase your cycling/firing speed so it may be worth getting either way.
The solenoids are custom made from a company that has never made a noid for paintball though they've been around for a while. I'm not sure of the name but I'm told it has a much higher flow rate over the old noids so it should help with those cycling speeds. Time is around 5-6 weeks for these now to be delivered to PBK. Hoping this is the final stretch for these noids.
Macdev is working on a flash for the 07 Cyborg board. It was the 07 board that was causing the half cycles not the solenoids apparently, it had issues controlling the flow of the solenoid. I'm not sure if it'll be a free flash, I would think it would be. I don't have a time frame on this yet but I am told it is a promising code update. So it may be worth the wait, especially if it's free and you haven't dropped money for a NOX flash. I'm glad I waited now. Though your 06 Boards will work in the 07 Borg too; I'm currently running my 06 stock board without issue.

Awesome. Let's hope these new noids are as promised. It's really not a big deal for me though, my halo's so old I doubt I can even consistently ramp 18. Do you know if I'd have to pay return shipping to Canada if I sent in my bolt for a new one?

I think you only pay for shipping honestly. But double check with Jim and Mike since they're holding the cards. I'm waiting for the new noids to come in before exchanging my bolt, do it at the same time. Then it's a matter of waiting for the flash. I'm glad I didn't get the NOX flash now.

Prolly a good idea to wait for the noids too. I haven't had any problems with burps and hiccups, but I only put about 800 shots through it with paint so it's kind of untested right now. The only field within an hours' drive is opening up again in april, so I should be able to get some play with it then.
Just a little OT here: I snapped an eye wire because I obviously don't love my borg enough. I assume 2k6 eyes work on the 07 (seeing as they can use the same boards).

I would think so but I'd check again just to be sure. Only takes a minute to write in email over taking a few days to buy something, get the wrong thing, and send it back to get the right one. Once that board flash comes out though, man, I'm going to be tearing it up even more on the field. Though the Predator board is definately doing the job if you ask me.

I'm just pumped about playing at all this season. Kind of a toss up what with grad and starting life and all that. Plus 2 guys out of my 5 man team are going for surgery sometime this year (one can't walk now and the other guy's shoulder keeps falling out). Maybe I'll find another team around here to play with.

With an 07 Cyborg blazing on the field, a team would be foolish to not at least consider you provided you got the skills to back the marker of course.
I feel like this should be an AIM conversation somedays. Not much of a forum with two people. :P

hey, I'll pop in here too Tabs! I'm not a macdev owner (yet) but I still love keeping up with macdev stuff, I always have since like 2003 when the Borg first came out.
just another piece of info regarding the bolts: if you dont feel like sending your bolt in and having to possibly skip a practice because of the down time, I believe you can buy the new bolt for $30. Not a bad price at all!
also, mad props to macdev on getting a brand new solenoid designed, developed and produced so quickly, that is way above and beyond.

Yeah you could buy one too but why buy when you can have one for free? Then again, I have several 'back up' markers to fall back onto.
Considering that this is a custom built noid I'd say it was rather fast. About three months worth of work I'd say, and then another month of fine tuning and shipping. All and all not too shabby.

I myself like the aluminum end cap on the bolt (looks sweet as an annoed accent). I might end up getting a new one down the line or if I experience problems, but until then, sticking with stock. I hate how I'm sinking a pile of cash into extra gear just so I can mess around at the chrony with the new noid. That's alright though, I'll just pay for it with store credit from working at the field so much.

Awesome, I had heard from Mike at PBK that the X7 flash was being tested and he had his hands on it. I couldn't pry a date out of him though but I'm glad I waited instead of paying for the NOX flash.
And I won't need accent kits when I'm done with my Borg. It's going to be pure evil sexiness.

If the accents are cheap I might pick one up. I might be sengding the thing off for milling and anno if things go right this summer, but with how many times the phrase "if things go right" has never matured into "since things went right/as planned", I might have to fall back o some simple accents. Can't wait for new stuff.
Hey Tabs. When you called Jim did you find out how we'd be getting these new things? I don't want to pay shipping halfway across the continent twice.

I didn't find out yet. I told Mike I'd wait for the noids to come in before swapping my bolt though, but if the flash comes out along with the noid then I'll do the whole thing at once.
The Borg is going to ODD very very soon so it's going to be off the field for a while... but it'll come back amazing so I can afford to wait to ship it all once to PBK. :D

the changes i've made so far include; the new oring-less bolt(i think is a significant improvement), macdev matchstick kit(which i am using .693/16inch), and hybrid grips(cuz my lightining bolt thingys fell off exposing the board), and put a dovetail rail for my asa cuz the asa would keep coming loose.
i can't see needing anything else, not even a new noid, or new board. please convince me i need these when they come available.
i'm talking bout an 07 borg, of course

Well the noid is a free replacement and it's becuase the noid in the 07's currently are considered 'defective' by Macdev since they can't deliever the high rate of fire that people want. Granted you only need 15 bps but everybody wants there 36 bps and they do test to see if the marker can do it.
Also the stock 07 board needs the flash that will be coming out soon. It fixes errors that accured during the uploading of the code. The board is responsible for the half cycles and other issues people were having. So I would definately take the flash when it comes out as well as the noid. There's no reason not too especially when Macdev themselves is saying they're defective.

i have two 07's and they both work great, as described.
i don't shoot >15 bps
i've had no cycling problems
i've had no board problems
i smile as i think about the amount of paint i put on someone's head as it was sticking up just inches above a bunker
there's nothing wrong with my marker(s)

Still, it's something I would consider doing in case something goes wrong for you one day. And, like I said, this is all free (not sure on the flash yet if it's free or not) except for shipping. So like five bucks worth of shipping if that and you have two noids that do what they promise and two boards flashed with the latest code to wipe and correct any and all problems. I hear the X7 code is incredible anyway, I'm not sure what they did with it but I'm hearing nothing but good things. I'd go for it all honestly, there's no reason not too.

tabris,
did you sell your 06? and what would you say the difference is between 06 and 07?
Tabris17
04-03-2007, 04:46 PM
Yes, I sold my 06. The difference is the 07 is a little smaller obviously and it's smoother stock. Much much smoother stock. It kicks like my uped 06 with a delrin ram in it, it's wonderful.
