View Full Version : My latest idea for a concept field.....

So I was thinking about what would make a frikking awesome new gametype or new way to play. Airball is awesome, hyperball is terrific, and woodsball is also fun. There's an element of relying heavily on communication in all three of these gametypes to gain a competative edge, because otherwise, you have no clue where your opposition is.
My proposal is this. Remove the communication element entirely. No sneaking around, and worst of all, good luck finding a way to reload if no one can cover you. And so I propose the question:

What would happen if you made every bunker on the field out of plexiglass? See thru bunkers.....they'll cover you, but it'll take a whole new style of strategy to win. I think plexiglass is up to the task of handling paintball play without breaking....hell, they make F-16 cockpits out of the stuff.
Whatcha think?

i doubt it will become anything popular. but it sure does sound fun as hell and challenging. imagine trying to bunker someone if they can see you run up to them.

I'd play it.

but if you shoot the plexiglass after a while it will be covered in paint and you wont be able to see through it...

it would be fun, but it might not work as well as you thought it would

Sounds pretty tight to me. However, aperson is right, just shoot it a bunch and then you can't see through it anymore. It would definatly build some skill. I'd try it for sure, sounds like fun.

My friend has a private field that has a bunker made out of netting. You can still see through it no matter how many paintballs hit it (most of them bounce off without breaking anyway), and it's weird being able to see someone behind it and not being able to eliminate them.

So yeah, it's a neat idea, but I'd use netting (like the kind that they use around airball fields) instead of plex.

My two cents,

Well, why would you shoot at a bunker if it took away the ability to see your opponent? You could shoot at your own, I supose, but that would be a red flag someone's there anyway.

I think it'd be pretty interesting to say the least.
I'd be up for trying it if someone were willing to bring the concept further forward and develop a field with it. I can't say how successful that might be, but it would be an interesting novelty.

You would shoot at a bunker so your opponent couldn't see you without peeking around the edge.
And even if you didn't deliberately shoot at the bunkers, they would get hit quite a bit anyway.

they could be coated in some compound like rain-x to allow the paint to slide off.

or
You could use translucent filled paintballs or just thin filled paintballs.

Can't remember where I saw it, but you can also get clear shell, clear fill paintballs.

I still say netting FTW. Just slap together some frames out of 2x2s, and staple the netting across.

It would certainly be interesting!

Ebonclaw, if dueling wasnt illegal in the state i live in. (accepting the charge is where you get caught according to the letter of the law... yeah, RI is strange.) i would suggest simple one on one duels. safe, interesting and down right fun. to make it more interesting, give the person two shots instead of one.

some people are stupid, that's just the way it is...

Actually, I know a guy who did make a field with glass bunkers. It didn't work out too well though. Kids kept crashing into the bunkers and busting their heads open. Netting sounds cool, but if somebody shot at your bunker and the paintball broke, you would get splatter all over you and it would be impossible to tell if you're out or not. Maybe some kind of clear inflatable bunkers would work. Like those cheap inflatable couches. Think about reloading when somebody can see you though. That would be hard.

Clear, 1in thick plexiglass bunkers with colored lights underneath, and a strobe light flashing. Or play under black lights with clear bunkers.

I can see someone making a head first dive into a bunker and underestimating the distance though...

Strobelights and flying paintballs. One second it is flying, the next second it is all over your goggles. That would be cool to see. Reminds me of the ultimate madness field in Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball. :)

Yo, where in RI do you play at? Im located there too.

But yea, I think it would be neat, mainly because despite being able to see the other people, natural PB instinct would probably take over.

Anyways it would be wierd, but idn i wouldn't mind trying it out

How about a Plexi-glass MAZE!?

It might be interesting, but it would be dangerous too. Big, hard, plastic walls, with corners...
About the thing aout shooting the plexiglass, people sometimes do shoot bunkers, as a way to suppress them or a way of intimidation. I know people who shoot at bunkers for a reason.
Also if it was plexiglass there, it would be another reason to shoot it. Players would shoot it to impair the other player's vision trough the plexiglass and go bunker them (if they don't look around the plexiglass). That brings up something else, if people play wth plexiglass for a while, people will start relying on it too much.

It might be interesting, but I don't really like the idea...

i for the plexi glass maze except for add mirrors like in james bond golden gun, paintball in a fun house, that would be cool, with weird noises and fake manikins and the whole thing strobe lighted, thats were it would be at

curly fry has the right idea. i was thinking that would be cool too. If someone tried to bunker you, you would see the person all over the field in reflections as they ran around

EDIT: strobe or black lights would pwn

how about this:

plexi glass bunkers
black lights
flourescent paintballs
a maze type setting

it combines the skill and hunt of woods ball and the fast paced adernaline rush of speedball.

( forgive me if something is spelled wrong... )

Fixed... personally I would like it if it wasn't a maze, but I just thought it would be awsome if they made like real bunkers out of them like dorito and stuff by cutting and putting them together! That would be awsome if you ask me.

This is starting to sound like a laser tag field....

The plexi glass idea would definetely be fun to screw around with (with the exception having to hose down the plexi glass after every round.) It would really prolong the round's and bring some crazy new elements to the game. Just so people don't go crashing into the bunker's, they could be outlined in black or something, so they kind of look like an open doorway.

I used sheets of plexi glass about 2 years ago playing paintball and they worked to perfection. me and some friends built bunkers and trenches going back from one another and put sheets of plexi glass in front of the trenches and they were great. They were shot at least 500 times and not one crack in the glass.....Plexi glass would be a great addition to any woodsball game

it would be fun, but it might not work as well as you thought it would

why would you be shooting the plexiglass? wouldnt you only be shooting the edges if anything?

If you're concerned with people running into them, another solution is to make them translucent instead of transparent, have like 6 different colors of tint. Then have a hose near by to rinse the whole thing down after each round, but that might create a mud problem. I've actually found that a spray bottle of ethel alcohol cuts through paint well.

It sounds like a good idea but then again I'm pretty sure injuries would increase...
