My little brothers birthday is tomorrow, and I needed to get something. So I bought 2 paintball gun kits from sports authority. They are:

TAC-5 Recon M

I don't know if the M is part of the name or not. We will be playing in the woods, just for fun and not a whole lot. But do these guns suck, or are they decent, or pretty nice or....?

Sorry, I am about as newb as you can get when it comes to paintball stuff...

Well, they don't exactly suck, but they're not high quality either. You could've gotten a much better deal though, like a refurbished Spyder Pilot ACS 05' from www.firstcallpaintball.com (http://www.firstcallpaintball.com). I believe they cost just as much as the Tac-5. Make sure you're using good masks too! Safety first! Also take the guns down to the shop to have the velocity properly adjusted below 300 FPS, unless if you have a chronograph at your home, which in that case you could chronograph the marker's speed yourself.

the Tac-5 is a wallyworld special. for the same price at the same place your probably better off getting one of the spyder packages.

the Tac-5 works ok enough to get the job done untill you can afford a more reliable and longer lasting marker.

If you already bought it just keep it and play with it. Don't worry about it too much i've shot one before and they are comparable to mechanical spyders and tippmanns.

A new Tac-5 can be picked up for $65 new. A tac-5 is a great starter marker.

Yes, but there are better, higher quality markers for that same price range.

The Tac-5 was my very first paintball gun too. I went a little overboard with it and bought the optional adjustable stock, M4A1 style carrying handle/sights, and a remote line. The first two were mostly visual upgrades that did nothing but add a ton of weight to an already heavy gun.

I ultimately ended up returning it after one use. The heaviness of the Tac-5 got to me. While it's not extremely unbearable, it's just uncomfortable over a long period of time. You will also get your butt handed to you if you choose to use it in speedball games. Otherwise it's a very solid starter gun.

Unfortunately I also had some velocity issues with the Tac-5, where I couldn't go above 220 FPS for some reason. I don't know if I just bought a crappy one or what. I pretty much had to aim the gun like a grenade launcher for far targets. After a while it got really annoying, so I gave up.

I bit the bullet and got myself a Tippmann A-5 instead. They're not cheap, but their reliability, easy field stripping, and lightness (compared to the Tac-5) more than make up for it. The Tippmann 98 is just as good too, and cheaper than the A-5 model. In any case I'm happy now with what I've got.

I still consider myself a newb too, and to be honest I'm terrible at taking things apart for maintenance. One of the other reasons why I went with a Tippmann was because of its reliability and popularity. So if for some reason it does end up breaking down, chances are I'll be able to find at least one person who'll know my gun and will be able to offer some help.

That's another thing to consider. But I'm sure you'll be fine with the Tac-5. Its internals are fairly simple. And like I said it's a solid gun overall. If you have any problems with it, just call JT tech support and they'll help you out. I've heard some pretty good things about their phone support services.

Ive never used those guns, but they seem over priced!
