Hit the field this morning and what to my amazement did I find ... About 70 very green, very young newbies and only a handful of experienced players. The teams were huge (40 and at one point, 50, on each side. It was an utter ClusterDuck). So, some mates on my team and I decided we'd urge the newbies to rush the opponents, you know, thin the herd enough so that we could figure out who was who and where the OpFor was hiding. Worked fairly well in a couple of games. The trick is to keep the newbies motivated and moving, kinda like herding cattle. Most of the really green players had a tendency to cluster into bunkers and not move, or shoot for that matter. At least one good player had to accompany them, shout at them, threaten to shoot them, etc, to keep them advancing. I bet their parents are POd at us. Late in the day, One of my mates actually shot several of them out because they were blocking his line of fire. I'm just not that cruel.

About 90 percent of the newbies were walk-ons, had rental equipment or Walmart specials and cheap masks. My biggest fear that day wasn't that I'd get nailed on the field, but in the staging area by the field. These goobers were wild-firing at bunkers, trees, etc., and when there are that many people in a small area, there's a high probability that one will shoot another player. I growled at several of them to put them markers down before I booted their butts. Most were 11-14 years old.

Newbies can be fun to fool aroung with sometimes but dont forget how we all felt when were where newbies ang getting told to go seek the enemy as some sort of dead usless bate, also newbies can be usefull alsosometimes kids tend to fell safe from fire around me and usualy ill make them a quike little fort type thing and tell them to snipe out people in bunker and they can do pretty good, only problem is they are active too much. usualy once a newbie is in fear of being hit hell tear out of the place as fast as he can.

Playing w/ newbies is great. On one occasion It was 3 experienced players and myself w/ 20 newbies. In this game, I was forced to use the newbies cause of the ratio. It was awesome. The great thing about newbies is that they've never been shot before. I convinced my little army that a paintball doesn't hurt. I just emphasized the fact that its gelatin and paint, and they bought it. First game alone we over ran the other team. Those guys had so much fun I see them all the time.

Yeah, we all joke about Newbies, but the fact is, if it wasn't for newbies, there'd be very few of us on the field on any given weekend. Flash, you're on the right track, you made those guys feel important and I bet they had one of the best games of their lives.

The situation I described at the beginning of this thread was a tactic of necessity ... they're were so few experienced players and all these newbies ... we had to get them to rush the opponents. It wasn't inhumane in the fact that it was Newbie vs Newbie.

Well I think that it is far more rewarding to see younger players have a good time, especially newbies. My first game was awesome, partly because of the people I played with. Its great to see the excitment in people after they get a flag capture or first elimination. I or other experienced players should make it fun for new people, and not take advantage of the situation to boost ones own ego. Unfortunately, I often see experienced players hardcoring new players, even little kids. I don't understand how someone could get pleasure out of that. Its sick if you ask me.

i make fun of htem..but they know i'm just joking around..if a newbie's gun is broken, sometimes i let them use my gun while i fix their gun while they play...it's a rewarding experience man..just remember this...you were the newbie once

I don't really have much experience fixing guns so i can't do that, but i do go alittle easier than usual.

and please don't get the wrong idea about this tactic. both teams were heavy with newbies, and that particular saturday was really wild cause there were so many people on the field (I remember one ref telling another they had 120 players at the field that day). There were maybe five or six experienced players on our team and maybe 10 on the other, so the ratio was heavy in favor of newbies.

I mean, I'm taking my son to the field with me Saturday, so I don't want anyone doing something to him that I WOULDN'T do to someone.

I agree with you're point, Flash, about people being so hardcore on Newbies ... I saw a guy rush a bunker and blast this 10 year old kid from about five feet away. That kid had never played before, he was there with his dad and older brother, and he was hurtin after that hit. I haven't seen his family come back. Part of this game is being aggressive, but you also have to play smart and with a modicum of ethics.

yeah good point...that's why i'm so nice to newbies..when i first played..htis *** with a tricked out cocker pelted me with like 5 shots...the only reason why i'm still in the game is cuz the guy came up to me after the game and sed sorry....if he didn't..i don't think i'd be playing paintball now..

Even for an OLD FART, I like to play aggressively. I know the risk of rushing bunker, popping in on someone who isn't expecting it ... I know i might get hit a few times at close range. I can accept that.

But there's just no sense in this Billy-Bad-A SS mentality that's evident on every field I've played on. Why torment Newbies? What does it prove? I'd hate to think I spent Two or Three Grand on a marker and the only think i could do with it is terrorize kids.

Newbies are great, the best thing i've done yet is to take about 7 or 8 of them under my wings when i play.. I love having newbies, mainly cause all of the realyl wacky ideas you can get them to do... I put on on top of a house style bunker in rec ball.. he sniped 6 players off the other team and had a blast doing it..

the other kid i stuck him in a bath tub.. do you know how hilarious it is to see a 10" barrel sticking out of a drain hole in a bath tub ???

actually, i'm really intense on the newbies. making sure they follow saftey rules, getting them "into" the team thing, making sure they know who is who, and best of all, making sure they have fun..
