I just got my first gun, a Spyder Rodeo and was wondering if i needed an electric hopper? A few of my friends told me that they help with Mechanical Markers, is this true? BTW- I can get a Viewloader Revolution X-Board for $15. Is this something I need to buy? And now that I'm playing my little bro wants to play to, what gun should I look at getting for him?

Thank you so much for the help,
O2

You don't need one, but it will help a little. You won't have to worry about the feedrate stopping with the Revvy, and since it is $15, I say buy it.

Do you mean just the X-board, or the whole hopper? If you can get the whole thing for $15 then thats a great deal. The Xboard is actually just a part inside the loader.

Look into refurbished spyders for your brother, they are good for the cheap price. www.firstcallpaintball.com has a bunch i believe

Used or referbished Spyders and Tippmanns are good choices.

Agreed.
They both have a simplicity of operation that is great when you are a nooby and just need to focus on playing.
I actually reccomend a cheap pirahna for noobies since they perform on the level of a stock spyder but do not have as many apparent upgrades.
I really feel that blowing a lot of money upping a stock spyder is a waste. Many of the tippy ups are a waste as well.
When you add them all up, you usually would do better just getting a mid level EP. ANS makes a really nice variation on the Ion for around 250 called the razor. Believe me I am no Ion fan, but this is a good marker.
You can easily spend 300 dollars upping a spyder (not even spimmying it) and at the end of the day you still have a low end blow back.
Tippmans have great ups, but many are cosmetic or of no value other than personal prefferance. They are durable as heck and it is not uncommon to find tippmans in use that are 7 or 8 years old. My old model 98 I use as a loaner is going on six now and it still performs flawlessly.
