OK i did what it says in the manual and set the HPR to 260psi. Then i tightened the LPR until it was leaking, then loosened it one turn. So i chrono it and it is only shooting about 210fps. So i loosen the LPR which is supposed to increase velocity. I adjusted it to just above the point in which the bolt uncocks. This hardly raised the velocity at all. I did notice the more i increase the pressure on the HPR the faster it will shoot. So i set it over 400psi which seems crazy high and it shot about 270fps. But now i am only getting 300 shots on a 50/3000 tank which is brutal.

Can anybody tell me what the problem is?

alrighty. First and most important bit of info required: does your gen 1 have the original stock gen 1 bolt in it, or the ICD HE bolt? if you're not sure, look here (http://www.*******s.com/thcgunsmoke/tech/icdhebolt.htm) and look at the "ICD stock efficiency bolt" and "ICD high efficiency bolt" sections, see which one you have. Also, that site has a video of a better method for setting your regs which you should watch.

if it has the stock bolt, the manual has the correct reg settings, which is around 260psi. for the HE bolt, it should be between 350-400psi. So if you're getting the right velocity at around 400psi and you have the HE bolt, thats fine. The efficiency you're getting is pretty low for an HE Bolt though. the HE doesnt exactly get amazing efficiency, but you should see 900+ from a 68/4500. your results come out to a little over 600 shots from a 68/45, which is more reminiscent of the original gen1 bolt's efficiency. anyway figure out what bolt you have first and then we'll see.

Thanks, that is a really good site. I have the stock bolt. I will try setting the regs their way but probably not till Friday cause i got exams this week.

arg, I feel your pain. I have an organic chemistry exam in an hour :banghead:

let us know how it goes when you've had time to mess with it some more.

Haha thanks Lotus. Schools done now:D . So today i was ripping up the freestyle and the promaster. Freestyle is shooting ~250fps at just under 300psi on the HPR and the lowest possible pressure on the LPR without it uncocking. Air effeciency is brutal, only a hopper and a pod off a 50/3000 filled to 2900. So I guess i could live with 250fps and buy a huge tank or just get a new gun.

^yeah, I dont know how much can be done. It sounds like the HPR is near the correct pressure. That isn't a very large capacity tank but still, its hard to play with that kind of efficiency regardless. Have you lubed the bolt and valve assembly correctly with liquid superlube or another similar lube with PTFE?

you'll probably want to get another tank eventually regardless, but gen 1 freestyles with the stock bolt were terribly inefficient, as in they make DM3's look like vikings. The HE bolt was released almost immediately because it was so bad. I'm not very familiar with anything you can do to get these old bolts shooting better, as almost nobody uses them. I'd say it'd be worth it to either get an HE bolt installed (if you can get it done by ICD for free with an HE bolt coupon) or get a newer freestyle. I love freestyles, obviously because I shoot one and probably wouldnt trade it for anything besides a newer freestyle, but I'd stay away from gen 1's. You can pick up a used Freestyle Pro for very cheap, they have nonexistant resale value and they feel just like FS7's and FS8's (although less efficient than the 8). Or try something other than a FS, whichever you decide. It just sounds like you stumbled upon the red-headed stepchild of freestyles and I dont want you to get a bad opinion of all the excellent newer models because of it.
