Isn't it a waste of time and money?
Seriously?

Going to a movie, or buying a new video game, or building a scale model, or going to a theme park all technically qualify as a waste of time and money.
All these activities are in no way required for us to keep breathing.
They are fullfillment of desires.

I am sure you could make an argument that you need to fullfill your desires to live, but I think someone living in a shanty town in South Africa would heartily disagree with you.

Comparitively, buying food or paying the rent/mortgage are not wastes because you need them to live. Also working or school would also not be classed as wastes becasue you are contributing to your own self betterment and that of society though gained knowledge and fiscal outlets.

You could use that time to do volenteer work in community outreach programs, habitat for humanity, cancer research.

So I ask the same question, with all the other things you could be doing, isn't it a waste of time?

Don't get me wrong. I am as guilty as the next guy of wasting time and money on lots of silly useless things.

But I have the money and time and desire, so I do it.

Ask them if that money would be better spent on other recreational activities, maybe some illegal recreational activities. Tell them it at least keeps you out of trouble and still active, so you're not sitting around the house becoming one with the couch.

Paintball is an expensive sport, that is all there is to it. And one thing that separates it from a lot of other sports is that your prime expense (paint) is a consumable, and not reusable.

Take another expensive sport - golf. You can spend quite a bit on clubs (like your marker), and the greens fees (field fees) can be expensive. But (unless you suck like I do) you only need to buy something like a dozen golf balls and you are set for awhile, where in paintball you can spend $40 for a case of paint, and over a years worth of play you can go through a lot of paint.

And even with the usually expensive fees, 18 holes of golf lasts all day, not just 5 hours.

You'll never convince someone that isn't into paintball that it isn't wasteful, and you won't convince a lot of people that do play paintball either. The difference being the people that play understand that it is worth the waste. :D

Well , yeah...I am.:D

I guess I will take it as a compliment since I didn't see:dodgy: .

Not that I don't appreciate it, but my ego really doesn't need stroking.

Was that a compliment unto yourself? That is dis-tasteful, and shows that you are egotistical. See? Anyone can use big words, it just takes some knowledge of those big words. Just like Bush. He uses big words. He does not know how though. I am not insulting your intelligence, mjr_paranoid, I am simply stating that people who comment on their own egos and compliment themselves, are not extremely sociable people. That is all. Your comments are thusly accepted, as it is only fair.

Tell them you are going to go spend your money on ecstacy and weed instead then.

To be honest mjr_paranoid really got it summed up pretty good, but another point is that you parents may see paintball as a waste in comparison to another sport. Be honest $50 for 5 hours is up there, some kids don't even make $7 an hour and your spending $10 an hour. They probably think it is a waste because it costs so much, but in my opinion it is well worth, becasue Paintball is so fun, and I think most of the people on PBReview would agree because they are members of a paintball forum.

With all due respect, you may have misunderstood my post.I apologize if my words were unclear.

Normally I would reserve this kind of flame to a PM, but since you chose to publicly fire across my bow I feel it only fair for me publicly fire back.

Well , yeah...I am:D .

See the big grin? Denotes a BIG GRIN. So that was a playful friendly remark, not a serious statement. And BTW, I AM pretty smart.:D

I guess I will take it as a compliment since I didn't see :dodgy: .

The :dodgy: denotes a sarcastic remark. I was simply qualifying the posters remark. It could have been mocking or truly comlimentary, I chose to assume it was a positive remark.

Not that I don't appreciate it, but my ego really doesn't need stroking.

And that line says I really was not looking for a compliment but I appreciate the posters words. I do not think of myself as dumb or a loser. I do not post here for people to say how cool or smart I am. Therfore, my ego is just fine. It doesn't need to be stroked for me to smile.

I am STILL not looking for any compliments.

Fine. I apoligize. You have taken my dignity, what else do you want of me?
And how old are you mate? In Britain, older people are generally thought of as smarter. At least in my private circle of whom I do not wish to disclose.

I certainly don't want to take away your dignity. Maybe your tac-5 so you will be forced to get a different marker;) , but not your dignity.
But seriously, a Tac-5 is a functional and affordable marker.
I know people have been giving you a hard time about using one and I can understand how that might have given rise to a general sense of annoyance that you may have felt a need to vent.
I am the last person to seriously make fun of someones marker. One of my brother in laws plays with a Talon and he does very well.
Frankly, I was just taken aback by what I percieved as an unfounded personal attack.
I was a little harsh and I apologize for my behavior as well.

Like paranoid said at the beginning, paintball really is a waste of time and money. Not to mention that after you spend 2g's on paintball, you're going to ask your parents to buy you a car.

Honest to god, I don't really think paintball is a waste of money. I mean, what is money if not to spend? The sole purpose of money is to be exchanged for goods and services which you require or enjoy. I mean, if we really want to get out there, getting conned isn't even a waste of money considering you have essentially bought a life lesson.

paintball is probably the most effective and responsible waste of money in my hometown. Take into account that the vast majority of people my age regularily blow all their cash on:
1. Booze
2. Weed/mush/E/smokes
3. whores/dates
4. movies
5. video-style entertainment.
6. clothes that expose how much of a horse they really are

In comparison to me, who spends almost all of my money on paintball (aside from that which I need for life), receives massive health benefits (such as clear lungs, a liver with little to no scaring, legs that can rocket me across town in no time, plus all the lesser known advantages to regular exorcise), and even the odd connection at local businesses. As far as my money is spent, I see it as quite the advantage. In the very least, it's the lesser of 5 or six evils.

Awesome post :) I just think that if paintball is what you're interested in spending your on then it doesnt really matter.. you can spend your money on anything you like right? (that is if you pay with your own money)
