I have gone over the threads on how to balance the regs and everything like that. I currently have my LPR set on the low side...so I see what it takes to kick the bolt back and then I do a 1/4-1/2 turn more. But to get my FPS up to the 280 range I have to put my HPR up to 300, or right around there. Is this reason to be concerned? Is there something wrong? What should I do?

Also, does anyone elses bolt get black with grease by the end of the day of playing. Its not paint...its grease.

300psi Is very high. Im surprised you arent breaking paint at that pressure, turn it down to around 225

If I turn it down to 225 my FPS is around 230-240. Strangly enough, my FPS is almost equal to my HPR PSI as long as PSI is between 220 and 300.

Clean and lube your reg that may be the problem

i got mine at about 250, but my reg has also worn out a bit

Try raising your LPR a little, that can lower your HPR.

Your paint may be very small bore, or your barrel may have too large of an inside diameter, causing horrible efficiency. Remove your barrel, stick a paintball in the end and look down the inside of the barrel to check how much light you can see around the ball.
I had the same problem you have, until I bought a barrel kit and got a nice paint-to-barrel match-up. Now I'm running 280 FPS with the pressure just below 200 PSI, and the LPR turned up just enough to hold the bolt back.

And as for the grease, my bolt does get black after a lot of shooting and I can't tell exactly where it comes from. I just wipe it off at the end of every day of play. (By the way, you probably know this already, but the bolt is self-lubricating and should not be greased or oiled.)

Hope this helps,
Gripp

OK, I took it down to the field to tinker with it. I was able to get my gun to shoot about 300 fps at 275 psi but my LPR was all the way in...it wouldn't go any further and it wasn't leaking...kinda scary. At that PSI in the LPR is that going to kill efficiency?

With my LPR down where is should be (1/2 turn past cocking) my consistency way horrible, taking 20 fps dips, never breaking 280 fps.

Also I checked the paint to bore match and its as close to perfect as possible.

^that sounds ok, I don't think you'll hurt anything running it at those settings. Having a higher LPR setting will not necessarily kill efficiency because you also have a slightly high HPR setting of 275psi, which will help the poppet close more quickly. And as long as the LPR is not causing the solenoid to leak it is not at a dangerous pressure, so you don't need to worry about that either.

however, one culprit may be blowback. It doesn't seem to be as much of a problem in promasters as it was in B2K's and BKO's, in fact it seems pretty rare, but you might want to check for it anyway. air up the gun, place a single paintball in the chamber (don't put the hopper on) and put a tissue over the top of the feedneck. fire the paintball, and if the tissue flies off or moves significantly you have blowback. if it only moves very slightly due to the kick of the gun, you dont have blowback. you'll be able to tell the difference. blowback can make a big difference in efficiency and operating pressure if it is severe enough.

Also make sure the ram screws (the screws on the sides of the ram) are not overtightened. this could cause problems with low velocity on BKO's by inhibiting ram movement and while I havent heard of this happening on promasters, it may be able to happen.
