I'd say more skill than luck... but some luck is good.

If you're talking dodging paint while running straight into streams of it... yeah that takes some skills. But if you're running perpendicular to the streams of paint, it doesn't take much skill, just speed.

Lots of skill, and practice. Within time, you'll learn how to do it as well, it becomes almost second nature, and your reflexes will do it automatically

its skill when your in a bunker and you can see the paint and then dodge it

I'd say a little of both but i hope that when i dodge paint there is some level of skill

Yes, skill and practice help one avoid flying paintballs, but one can never underestimate the role of Luck in Battle.

yesterday in a field called the village ,i was shootin at someone from 25 feet away from a window in a shed he did not see me so i lit him up while he was running from my right to left. either he wiped the paint off when he got behind a shed or i missed about 15 shots that seemed dead on and not behind him. i calibrated for moving target.. the guy was moving like a running worm then i was out of paint so i went home wondering,.... i know i got him

When I went pballing last thursday I dodged lost a paint allmost game me a heartattack.
whell allmost.
Its not really dodgeing. Its more like moveing a little then popout and make him hide.
Whell what I like to do and some of you probley do it.
When some one shoots at me behing a bunker I hide then while he is hideing behing the bunker not looking I like to shoot all around him so he stays behind the bunker while I am moveing up closer I keepshooting then I pop out in front of him and get him good.

Nah, you can dodge paint while running. Just look up and watch anyone who may shoot at you, there's no need to stare at your destination as you run to it, the bunker isnt gonna move from last time you looked. So just watch the opposite side of the field, you see a barrel pointed your way, dive, slide, change directions towards the closest bunker, do whatever it takes, because if someone draws a bead on you, and you keep running, you're just askin for it

Youre asking for it...lol j/k

But it depends on how acute your mind is.. I remember dodgein mass paintballs one day then another i just watched one come streight at my goggles and SPLAT... saw it comming the whole way but couldnt move..

PaintKiller
03-30-2001, 07:03 PM
Yeah its a split second desicion if you just stand there because its not going to hit you or do you run for it.
yep thats it.

i think that dodging paint from a pump or semi is half and half, but doging paint from a full auto is luck

04-05-2001, 07:18 PM
I know one thing sometimes when we play speed ball wich is really freaky cause at my local field the speedballl field is really small bout 30 ft square. But i do know sometimes when i'm behind a bunker and i pop out i see these blurs and balls wizzing past me when i see the first one i dropp back behind the bunker and right when i step back i hear pop POP POP POP CRACK CRACK CLICK CLICK from the paint killing the bunker so i guess i dodge a couple.LOL freaks me out though.

M favorite thing to do is while he is shooting one side of my bunkere I go to the outer side and shoot at him.
And when he tucks back in the bunker I shoot all around his bunker while he stayes in there and it gives me a chance to move up to the next bunker then he dosent know where I am he thinks I am at the last bunker so he will pop back out thing I am at the bunker I was before then WHAM! I get him.
I only do that when there are like 2 people left in a speed ball game.

Dodging paint while it is still hanging in the air is an art. It can be learned, but not by everyone. Most people can learn to dodge paint or learn to stay out of the line of fire. It takes skill to dodge paint. Skill is an ally, and a powerful ally it is.

Sometimes I see balls coming, then super fast get my head down and it seems like 1 millisecond after you do that they come. The ref had to do a paint check on me it was so close. Once I felt a little rush of air as one skimmed my ear. Don't try to do it, it is 75% luck and 25% reflexes, dont try to do this Matrix stuff. "DODGE THIS!"

Daniel
04-12-2001, 03:29 PM
it's mostly lucky because it's the person shootin the gun... not really... you can't dodge 3 balls a second from a person w/ good aim... unless u NEO or something....

To (almost, my memory isn't great) quote a great war movie
"I knew a guy once wore two helmets, a flak vest and armour underwear, but when your times up in the Ashaw, there ain't nothin you can do 'bout it"
In other words, if your out in the open, or part of you is exposed, its complete luck if you don't get hit, or buddy is a bad shot.

The Billionare
04-13-2001, 04:43 PM
Well yeah, I agree, that it is smarter to just tuck in tight and try not to have to dodge, but it is something you can learn, I swear. I can usually dodge paint, but not in the way you are thinking. If you see a ball or two flying at you, you can quickly get out of the way, but if some maniac is chasing you with a full auto, no, not even neo could dodge it. But practicing can make you better.

Ya I know, but I was just trying to add some flaovour to my post. My theory is, if your going to be hit, it means your in someones sights and there isn't much you can do besides hit him first.

Wait. I just learned how to defy gravity. I can dodge anything now. I'm faster than NEO. I'm the latest superhero, my mission so profound, I can leap the dotted line in just a single bound. In the famous words of Duke-
"WHO WANTS SOME"
Well anywho. I guess I'll stop trying to convince you that I can dodge bullets, I mean paint, yeah.

You are definately mistaken. The movie was HILLBURGER HAM. I know because I wrote, directed, edited, produced and starred in that movie. That's where I learned to dodge, paintballs!

it all started when i was sarounded by nazi shock troppers and i had one bullet luckly back in those days bullets were so cheap i could run to the corner store and steel some. any way when i came back from the corner store to fight off the grizlly bears i had forgotn my club so i ran up to one and shotted spoon as did the tick my handy side kick any way they chased me off so i reteated untell i found a small hole in the ground all of a sudden i super robo cop jumped out at me and ate my spine.
the moral of the storie is never evry play paintball with out your house hold clenser mr.clean and never ever try to kiss the ref!!!!

I think its more skill because you have to look where there gun is pointing, if ther pulling the trigger, and if paint if flying at you all at once so its skill

depends, when running skill comes in but if you guys are close you have to know how to scare the guy with warning shots and sticking your gun at him, his aim will be off

The Billionare
04-16-2001, 12:45 AM
Yeah, there is no rule that you can't shoot while your running. Good point. I think I'll try running back and forth while shooting and see if I can take out everybody.

No Incube I never get any, your sister has stopped returning my phone calls, so it's been a while :P As for running and shooting, it's probably one of the more important speedball skills, and for dodging paint, it's like I said, run with your head up, watch the opposition, you see something comin your way you dive/slide or do wahtever tog et the hell outta the way

i say you can dodge paint at a certain distance, i've yet to measure it out but it'll be a post soon. and when i play i've dodge shots and had shots dodged, it's not that hard if you've just got you head and gun sticking out, when you hear the pop(i guess the the sound a paintball gun makes) just duck.
ohyeah i would stay away from incube's sister apparenty his sister is drako. don't ask me

It takes a little bit of both more of skill you have to be skilled to be able to dodge paint but you always have some lucky times were you were lucky to get out of the way of it.

spyderman007
04-16-2001, 08:22 PM
i would say a little bit of both, i mean you have to be smart about it but if you keep trying to dodge some guys paint he will hit you no matter how bad of a shot he is

APG has a great article on this topic. It's The early determined guy gets the win or something to that effect. They say it is an art and should be practiced. I agree with twich about the bunker not moving, just don't trip over yourselve or anything else. And shooting at someone while running may solve the problem all together, so you won't always have to dodge. Make em duck behind their bunker while you run.
