I want to hear everyone's honest opinion on whether or not the impulse s a dead marker. I do know that smart parts has phased out there impulses, but i dont know about other manufacturers, such as rat factory, gameface, and others. Anyone know this?

I am almost 100% sure that no one manufactures the Impulse anymore. I personally still play with my impulse, now and then. They are great markers, but sadly aren't being made anymore.

yea, most everybody who sold them at some point only has a very limited amount left, because they are dead. around me, its uncommon to even see them at the field anymore.

it is sad, although i wouldn't give my imp for anything(except for maybe a rail). I think smart parts should just redesign the impulse instead of putting stuff into the ion

At my local store the people there said that the Ephiney is suppose to be what Smart Parts was trying to get with the Impulse. The Ion was a step closer but not quite. The Ephiney is suppose to be a cross of the imp and the ion. I dont know for I have only looked at them. I dont have one. Not willing to spend 400 on a new gun. But I live in Lawrence, KS and at the field I play at there is only 2 other impys. My friend and then a guy on other team. My friend loves the impy. He buys them on ebay and fixes them up. So to me a lot of people seem to think that the impy is dying but it is still around just has a different name.

It really does make a tear come to my eyes when I think about it. With enough love, and a bit of money, it was never difficult to make an impulse just as good if not better than anything else. Oh well, those days are gone. It never seemed Smart Parts was as interested in making a buck as they were in their actual products. IMO, while it would be a bit more expensive, an impulse correctly set up is infinitely better than the "perfect" ion or epiphany-at least the dump valve, electro-pneumatic 5-way solenoid controlled, impulse design could fire nearly twice as fast as an ion's design's max ROF.

Sorry, don't mean to ***** and moan; the ion's a great gun too-it, at the least, delivers as much performance as 90% of paintballers actually need. I just miss the impulse. :indif:

I wouldn't call the imp "dead" per se. It's still a great gun and can be beautiful when setup correctly.

I'm a bit ashamed now that I sold mine, but I took the opportunity to make the best on my investment while I could...

point is, imps can still perform with the best of them... just with a little more weight.

the people at your local store have know idea what they are talking about
the ion/epiphany is nothing like an imp
they are both spool valve guns, nothing like an imp
the epiphany was suppose to be a high end ion , but with all the bugs worked out of the ion design, and from what i have seen, it,like the nerve , has been a marketing failure
sure the epip has a metal body-better than plastic
the epip uses different firing chambers- the ion needed upgrades, but the two are the same

it is better to look at it this way
the ion was developed to be a poor players shocker, pure and simple, but in reality, many have had to put more into an ion to make it a decent gun than if they spent the moola on a shocker

I don't think the Imp is "dead" gun. I just got my first a couple months ago, now I have 2! :D The market is still good for Imps and parts, people are still buying them up. IMHO, something is not "dead" until no one wants that something anymore.

One of the reasons I got an Imp was due to the fact that is discontinued. That just means you can get them for cheap. I got a Mouse Imp with an Ergo reg, full Freak kit, and VL Evo Loader for $350 which I though was a descent deal considering what they went for a few years ago.

Most players follow the crowd in that the latest is the greatest and pay out for new gear while their perfectly good "old" gun gets put on the back burner or sold for way less that the purchase price. I'm the type to keep a good gun for a long while, and the Imp is still a great gun that can keep up with newer guns if setup properly. It may weigh a bit more, but I'm used to playing with an 8lb M98 setup.

Definitely not dead as of yet.

The impulse is on its way out but they are one of my favorite guns! I just bought another one for real cheap that had tons of stuff already done to it! If impulses keep selling for this cheap then I am going to be the owner of eavery one! I love my old impulse that I got way back when I first started playing and decided that it was the gun I am going to play the rest of my paintball career with! I love these guns but i am sadly dissapointed that they are slowly fading out...

My first gun was the Impulse Vision bought in Aug 04. Now, it's July 07 and i am still playing with it. Of course i mod/upgrade/mill/anodized it.

Here's a picture for people who still love the Impulse...

SP finished making the imp just as the nerve came out,
so that as like in 04,
it really pisses me off seeing people sell an imp and advertise it as an 05, 06
b/c SP didn't make any in 05/06

and yes gameface was perhaps the last PL body milled by SP
surprised?
there was only a couple of PL inps that were milled by the sellers, i think adrenaline was one, imperial(predator) was the other, and maybe one or two others, but for the most part, PL bodies were all milled at SP

BTW agent daffy, what happened, PBn got too exciting for you???
nothing like a dead *** forum to get the blood boiling, huh?

i got my brand new impulse in 06 and its different than what people advertise as 04, it comes with the shocker reg.

The gun itself wasn't made in '06... they just upgraded some parts on it to make it more "sellable"

See the only Imp that I could get is the GameFace one on AVI. Then I would still need to wait to get the cash for a LP tank. But I've always wanted an Imp, ever since I fisrt saw them. I dont know why, its just stuck with me. Plus I like the older guns.

no the marker itself is just exactly the same as a marker made in 03/04,
just SP didn't have any more of the old style max-flos and the shocker style maxy was the flagship reg of SP, so all their markers got shocker style regs

germanherman45
07-10-2007, 09:06 AM
yeah so its easier to say 06 impulse than impulse with a shocker reg

Any time a company stops making replacement parts for it, and 90-100% of aftermarket companies do the same, I would consider the gun dead. Just like SystemX and the NME.

I wouldn't consider the Impulse dead....but it's becoming phased out, with the new and improved everything. IMHO, the Imp is still a magnificent gun, which, when it is properly upped, is quite a bit better then some 2k5 to 2k7 markers. BTW, agentdaffy, that is one helluva gun! Way to go, man!

I don't remember reading any rule about posting a legitamate reply in a "dead" thread. If anything's dead it's this Imp forum..:(
