Looking at the reviews on here for the maddman spring kit for the 98c, i came up with a question. With the lightest trigger and sear spring it comes with, is there any way that im going to be able to walk my tippys double trigger? I know that i could go out and buy an egrip or response trigger, but honestly i dont have the money to go spend $60-100 for a higher rof, this said, How would i go ahead and make my trigger pull the lightest it can be, and still be mechanical?

Thanks,

Jason K

The problem isn't really the rear spring. As long as the hammer is lightly oiled, drive spring pressure is irrelevant as far as trigger pull is concerned. I'm sure you've read all the trigger mods to make the actual unburdened trigger pull as light as possible. That will help. However, the real problem comes with the sear spring. You'll notice that once you start pulling the trigger, initially it has that nice, easy unburdened feel, like when the marker isn't cocked. Then you feel the mechanism engage the sear. The pressure you're feeling is not the friction of the hammer against the sear, although that is a part of it. That pressure is mainly the sear spring. The spring that returns the sear has to be pretty powerful , because it's got to return the sear to it's original position before the hammer gets back. I remember reading somewhere that the peak cyclical speed for a blowback is about 40-50 cycles per second. That means the sear has to pop back up QUICK. The easiest way to accomplish this is is with a high spring pressure, which is what Tippmann does.

So the short answer is, no, you're probably not going to be able to walk your 98 even with the weaker drive spring. Without either a Response, E-grip, or E-bolt, there really isn't any way to increase your ROF that is both safe and reliable. There are trigger/sear mods out there, but they're dangerous due to the possibility of uncontrolled fire, and they're gonna tear up your internals quick just because of the increased stress on the parts.

Try model98.org, they have all kinds of little mods you can do to your 98's trigger and stuff, it still won't be walkable but you will be able to achieve higher rof's. It's a great site. You can have trigger stops, pen spring, filed sear/rear bolt (not recommended because of the danger it can cause if you don't do it right) yada yada yada. Heck, even no front trigger spring could make a slight difference.
