View Full Version : ACE on a blowback?

Some of your higher end electro markers (timmy, angel) have something like the ACE so that the gun won't fire if the paintball isn't completely in the breach.
Can an ACE be purchased and set up on a blowback?
The problem I see is that a blowback isn't electric so the ACE wouldn't be able to stop the bolt from moving if the paint was only half in. Did I just answer my own question?

Yes, you did. You'd have to have an electric grip frame that was set up for an ACE or one that you could jury-rig to accept an ACE. You can still get really cheap matched emitter / detector set from your local electronics store or Radio Shack. You'd have to drill the holes yourself, and make casings for both ends, but it should work pretty well. A set with a 1" range would be like $2-$3. You'd have to be good with electronics, and it would look kind of ghetto, but it might work rather well. Again, you would still need to get an electric frame and rig up an AND transistor (like 30 cents) and you could make it work.
Really, probably too much trouble. Do you really chop that much?

i have never seen it done, but im sure it COULD be done. i doubt it would be though just because getting the ACE installed would cost more than the gun . . . if you really want an ACE, get a timmi ;)

xen_100 has one on his Spyder. He made a thread about it a long, long time ago.
