I found a Empire 4 piece kit for $45. I was all set to get a Lapco bigshot, but I have always heard kits are better.

Since I can get one for the same price as the Lapco, should I? Are kits that much better, just over rated?

The 4-piece kit is a good choice as you'll have three backs and a single tip. It's like having three barrels and I like my Empire kit, it shoots very nice.

I'm leaning that way because the price is SO good. But, I personally don't like the way kit's bore changes.

I've often wondered what good is a good barrel fit, when the last 8 inches is a real loose fit. Does it bounce around a bit in that last 8 inches?

I know for cocker guys, it is the only way to go, but a good barrel, that is the same size the whole way throgh may be better.

Plus I know Lapcos are made very well and I like that mil sim look, I don't know much about the Empires.

How 2-piece barrels work is obviously screwing a tip and a control bore together. The control bore is what you need to size properly to your paint. The mechanics behind it is a paintball only needs about four inches or so to reach it's velocity, after that it's on it's flight path and doesn't benefit from staying within the confines of a honed barrel from end to tip.
So the ball gets up to speed in the control bore back of the kits then the tip is wider internally then the bore but it doesn't affect the balls trajectory or flight path at all because it's already at velocity. But the simple short answer is, no the ball will not bounce around in the tip of the barrel kit. It's already on it's flight path.

Nailed it as usual tabs. Buy the kit. I'll take a well matched barrel over ANY single boare barrel that isn't matched.
Not to mention, not dealing with inserts and utilizing backs is nice, inserts tend to be more easily damaged.

NOTE: I’ve never used either of these barrels.

Although I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say a kit will be better. But like I said never used ether of these but id go with the kit imo.
