Hello. My school has newly built a paintball course in the back of the school. the catch is that football players are the only ones aloud to play. They think they are all big and bad because the best gun there is a tippman stock. I think it is crap that we can't play with them. I am picking fights with the football players taunting them and saying i can get a team and wreck the football team but they think they are better. They have no clue what a bushmaster is or an Intimidator or and AMG. They SUCK!!! I am going to try sooo hard to get to play and when i do i am going to light up there whole team. I will be able to put 13 balls in the air in the time they put 5. I just wanted to see if what i am doing is good? wish me luck.

There is more to playing well than having a good marker. If you want to play though, just talk to the school and see if they want to make a seperate paintball team, and that you and the football players can split time. (I.E. different periods, or one plays right after school, and the other later in the afternoon.) Go at it because you want a team, not because you want to humiliate the football players. If you go in saying all you want to do is kick their asses, you will be given nothing except bruises by football players.

Thats what I want to know. Is the football players only allowing them to play, or the school. I don't see how the school would do that? Second, good lord how in gods good name did you convince them to build a speed ball course? Man I wish my school...errrr college would!

you see, the football players in my school get everything they want to. the coash is an ***. he is the one who got the school board to say yes. His son just got a gun so that is why they wanted to do it. And the coach says that only football players just because. he won't tell anyone why we can't play. i am going tommorrow to ask. thanx all

its because our sociaty rewards athletic achements and dosent really do much for the band / BETA club. For example, for our fundraiser, which BTW we raised $5,000 , the PE got new Coach chairs, the kind they sit in at basketball games, and new steel hutches for the computers ( they got new comps to, DELL 1 Gig).
do you want to know what the band got????!?!? NOTHING!!! we have 2 broken Tipinies (sp) (AKA Kettle Drums), not a set of matching drums sticks in the BAND, and, the Band Director cant kick out kids who dont really want to learn, and just distract the kids who want to learn. Also, in the last 1 1/2 year, we have gone through 3 BASS DRUM BALLETS!!!!! they should last at least 2 to 3 years!!! sorry, i got a little off topic and sorta started raving, but sue me.
Be careful, if you lite them up to bad then they'll try to beat you up later!;)

Football coaches don't run schools...
Or even athletic departments. Athletic directors do. You need to get an adult to help you out. But before you do you need a better attitude. You need to appeal to people based on whats fair. If you take that "they suck and I'll wipe them out" attitude people are a lot less likely to listen. People should get to play reagardless of gear or ability.
For the record, no matter how much paint you shoot, you still need to hit your target.

PMI_GUY, the band being the only consistently winning organization in our school, and the fact that our district always sucked at football (Texas football is too competitive), we got tons of money. My Junior year, a local bond that passed (like 71% too) gave our band several hundred thousand. Hehe, we had the best **** out there. :)

Ya I hear you on both counts. Anyone ever heard of elk grove? It's like little texas out here (well used to be, the last couple years have changed that quite a bit). Football gets everything. Ok let me tell you a few things, I did: Track, wrestling (3 jv, 3 varsity) Jazz band, festival band, concert/marching band, I was royalty in HS, went to college, started our own HS car show (I had a beatiful 69 firebird, but I sold to buy my new volvo...and m LCD) everything. Heres what I learned:
Band brings in quite a bit of money, has more kids activitvly particpating in it than any other sport (if you include choir...:(...) travels just as much, works just as hard...sometimes, goes to all the same events as football, plus basketball and any stupid thing the school staff asks ALL FOR BASICLY FREE. We never got any extra funding. Wrestling was the same way, we place in the state finals every year, and took it my jr. year in HS. Anyway, unforutenetly football does rule HS's spending wise. Heck if they spent extra money on teaching me how to spell I might not be the terrible speller that I am.
Nice thing is, I devolped ALOT of friends (IE staff members, teachers, district) and now that I've been in college for a while have started being able to work with my school about things like that. Best thing is, I'm an education major and am planning on teaching HS when I graduate (course the rate I'm going...that could be YEARS). You want to change that, get everyone you can, go to board meetings, take it up with your prinicple. I highly doubt that under state laws (any states) that any public school can willing deny any student use of the schools resources. Heck, if that doesn't work call it discrimination and call your local news agency!

Course...the number of band geeks to other sports thing is relative. My HS's marching band my sr. year had a 125+ members, I think football was limited to like 75 or so.
Depends on the school, and just the classes in general. My soph year was maybe 80 at best.
Whats everyone play...quite a few band geeks in here it sounds like. Me, Lead gutiar for the blues band I'm in, bass, trombone, drum line (2 years) and I can make noises on trumpet!

Hey,
sounds really bad for you guys. While we don't have a marching band or anything, we do have forenscis. being the only debater in 30 yrs from our HS to make it in the top 10 state debaters, you think our school would give us some support. NADDA, we have to pay for everything. The only thing the school gives us is hotel rooms. We have to pay for all of our evidence(about 150-200 bucks). The basketball gets BRAND-NEW jerseys,shorts,tear-aways every year. They are like a 350 dollar set! for 14 kids!!!! They haven't had a team go to state for like 20 yrs! Hell they barely make it past districts. Though I have quite a few good friends on every sports team, they feel the same way I do. They know they haven't had a winning season(like our debate team) has. Though our volleyball team was to state a couple of yrs.
But hey, this is my last year(and debate is over) and paintball season starts soon(though my school has turned us down like 5 times on having a field/club/extra-circullar activity)
wow, this is one of my longer posts:eyes:

If you want to talk about real corruption then look no further to the HS I used to go to... I was one of the people that did absolutely no extra curricular activities because I thought they were stupid, but I had MANY friends that did do a lot of things...
I'll tell ya, I have friends that could whoop our basketball team members, but mysteriously even though they tried out they didn't get on the team, yet the guys that did get on the team also coincidentally had parents with large amounts of money and had made contributions to the schools athletic program...
I'm sorry but no matter what a team should be put together out of the cream of the crop, not who has the larger pocket book. Same crap with the football team. Only one that wasn't corrupt was the soccer team and they weren't officially a team for the high school they were treated almost like the red headed step child or something...
Anyway...
Meanwhile the library had encyclopedias that were dated in the 70's, and the badly needed remodels that were needed for the building were neglected. Nevermind the fact that there were 35+ students to each room that were designed for 20 at most. CO2 levels in the school were something like 26% above federal regulations or something. Terrible stuff... School was built with 1400 - 1600 students in mind... Kinda sucks when you have like 2500 roaming the halls between periods. They had to extend the passing period by 5 extra minutes so that people could get to class on time.
And on top of that the band people had to raise money to be able to take trips for state championships and stuff... They took 2nd too... You'd think that'd merit something you know? Christ I hate school... probably why I dropped out and grabbed a GED.

but what really gets to me more than the money is that athletic people are treated like they are gods!! band peeps are genarally called geeks, and shuned in almost everyway possible. BTW, i play trombone, flute (dont ask) and can make a sound like a dying cat on a Violin.
AnsX2cocker
03-07-2002, 08:20 AM
the reason athletic people are generaly treated better is b/c if they r good, the school is recognized and people go and spend money to see them play, nobody goes to see band play, so y should the school put more money than needed to band.

My biggest beef is when they spend more on sports than academics... you know.. the whole reason that the school is there in the first place?

I agree 100 percent! ANS, I was in just about every sport I could get into at school, and even I think it's BS that ony sports get reconized at schools. Alot of people work very hard in bands (as nerdy as that sounds) and do quite a bit for the school as well. Our drum line went every where w/football and was reconized and shown on TV every bit as much as the team itself.

I always knew it was a blessing to go to the school I did and be in band. People don't respect the football team too much. That happens when you go like 2-9 every year. Meanwhile, at the beginning of football games, the stands were nearly full. After half time, there was just as many empty seats as occupied. We even got more applause than the home band every time. Even when it was their homecoming, we'd have the audience on their feet before the end, and they would just get a little clap. During my 3 years, we had between 330-360 people, and two of those barely half of the trumpets made it. (60 trumpet players, 30 marched). Ahh, good times, good times.
Anyway, I played Trumpet, and I also marched Soprano for the Phantom Regiment in 2000, and trust me that was a lot of work. 8-12 hours a day, every day, with 3 shows a week, traveling some 300 to 1000 miles a week by bus.

Very honestly, my football team gets jack sh........crap. We have a 13 year old sled (which i broke during a drill :wink2: so we'll probably finally get a new one), prehistoric knee thigh and girdle pads yellow with stains from sweat urea, and a crappy field with a hill in the southern end zone.
Most of us pay for our own jerseys and most of our equipment (unless u wanna catch pubic lice from the pads they give out:| ) so almost nothing is really provided by our oh so generous athletic director. Mostly of what little money we have (small-middle non-industrial type suburb = little tax money) is used for administrators who are overpaid hallway monitors.

thats funny the football players think they are so cool because they got a stock tippy and dont even know what anything else is...yeah but anyways the high school that i go to hasn't even won a football game in 4 years and are like 10-56 in the past ten years...yeah we suck...and they all want to get me to be on the team...haha right...theyre on like a mass recruiting service and they ask almost everyone in the school (even girls but i have nothing against that) and whoever says no the flame and make fun of...ive already been flamed and passed over...
we have a paintball club at our school but we dont even do anything...weve played like one game and it lasted for 1 hour...oh well:rolleyes:

you see the town my school is in is in the top 10 richest towns in the east coast. I don't live in it. i live in a small town outside of it. The people from my town outnumber the people in the school we go to. The "rich kids" make fun of us because we don't have the money that they have. They are the football players. All the money in the school goes to football. The football team isn't bad but they are not good. There field is in a stadium and the field is soo crappy but they stil won't let anyone step foot on it. i don't know man i hate school. i want to go to my hometown school but it is over crowded so that sux. our band needed uniforms and the school told them it would be in before the season but instead they gave them T-Shirts and told them the uniforms won't be in for a while. They finally got them right before the season stopped.

Legally, if the school has that resource on it's property, they can NOT Legally not with hold other students from using it. It's a sort of racism, bring that up at a school board meeting and threaten to sue. Well, not you have your parents do it.
They CANNOT do that, it's different if they didn't have one, but they do have a field on campus, and therefore that have to let you. If that doesn't work call your local paper, news agency, I kid you not, that will work instantly.

That is so typical. I hate football team coaches like that. Fortunatley though our band program is good enough and gets enough support that the football team doesn't have that much power, But i'd take it to the super intendent or even higher

well i live in Puerto Rico [an island in the carribean for those of you who have never heard of it]and at my highschool all we have is a s****y basketball team that doesnt even have games at the school.everything here is basket ball. ive tried to do the whole football thing and alot of people agree about it but the damn school board throws the idea out the window.Ive noticed that alot of kids [about 25 more or less] play paintball and want to try the whole school paintball thing but i think they're just gonna throw the "thats too violent" excuse at me.meanwhile 3 hours away from me in the metropolatan area [San Juan] schools are playing against each-other and they support it:pissed: .Does any 1 have any ideas as to how i can convince the school to allow varsity paintball team?i know im a little pff subject but i really want this.We even have enough land on school grounds for a speedball course.
p.s. if you do get to play the jocks, i hope you light them up.:)

You know, not all of it is anti jock stuff. I consider myself partially a jock, I did 4 years of wrestling 2 years of track, but I also did band, asb and other school activities, and got Royalty but I look at sports related people with some disappointment because I think it's sad that schools allocate so much money to programs like football and cut funding from other programs such as band. Not everyone is a gifted athelete, but a school shouldn't segregate between atheletes and non-athletic people.

I go to a Catholic School so even though the tuition is expensive there's no state funding (separation of church and state) PLUS my parents have to pay taxes for the public school system me and my siblings aren't even enrolled in!
