I'll start off by saying that there's really no reason to get an Epiphany over an ION - Epiphanys are just heavy IONS at a high price, whereas you can spend the cash on upgrades.
Try out a Proto SLG, they felt nice in the shop.

they also cost a good bit more than rails do.

I use a mini, its nice. Hard to balance well. I am too cheap for a myth reg, so I balance with a 45/45 tank and an aluminum14" pipe.
Can't get a drp on those to help.
I like the pricepoint and fuctionality of the SLG.
Why not a Trilogy Autococker? Cheap, good woodsball, better speeball, quiet, accurate, and light...and you can say "i have an autococker!"

A trilogy pro's trigger is going to be a bit slow compared to other markers you find in speedball.
Since he has the funds, an SLG or a used mid-end marker would be good choices.
and you can say "i have an autococker!"
Except that it's 'autococker lite' instead of the full thing. They are still fine markers, but not the full meal deal.

why is anyone telling him to get an SLG over any EP marker?
for a first gun... in all seriousness, choose an ion based OS... ion, ion XE, EOS, Epiphany..... id opt for the Ion XE for the Bolt out back feature...

Have you sen the price point on the SLG?
250.
* Its cocker threaded. BIG PLUS in terms of pairing up a good barel kit that can stay with him if goes to a higher end marker later.
* 145 psi operating pressure. NICE.
* Adjustable trigger and an over sized trigger guard area.
* 2lbs 2 oz. Nice n light.
* It's not an Ion:D
I am seriously thinking of getting one as a backup. And most of the SLG reccomenders here are probably as star struck by this new kid on the block as I am. This may fade with time and experience, but for now it looks good and doesn't leave the bad taste in the mouth that saying Smart Parts does.

pmr is 249.99 link here (http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=yShaJ3DfnPBa5jeIRJ2aj3oWQJm573ABJjo=?Pro ductID=FAvAqArb%2ehUAAAEOzq00w%2e13)
The SLG is a mechanical marker... its LOW END.... its having a bunch of issue as of right now....
the PMR is a fully EP marker... its high end (the way it operates)...

I was unaware of this.
The SLG is a mechanical marker
It's an electronic sear-tripped spoolie. I'm currently not aware of any problems, but yes, I should make a caveat in saying that I don't personally have one - I am going off of the feel in my hands, the general word on the street, and the manufacturer's reputation.
Mechanical markers are not all low-end.
the sear-tripping action would classify more towards low-end, the spool valve towards high end, the manufacturer towards high-end... it's just kinda an oddball on where to put it.
mjr_paranoid sums up my feelings very well. Ions have a reputation of breaking, proto products do not. There's still a long ways before the SLG is 'proven', but I'm assuming better things from it.
But yes, PMR being $250? Search over unless you want used.
Ions break less when, their owners actually read the owners manual first.

Works fine. I feel silly having spent 340 on it when the pmrs are so low now, but that was then this is now.
Haven't played in over two months though while I been workin on my kitchen.
I'm a sad panda....

spool valve doesnt mean high end though...
automags are not high end anymore... they are spool valves...
im aware that mech =/= low end... but mech and under $250 = low end...
there is just no way around that... the issues with the SLG is that the eyes are not seeing paint, there is a substantial amount of them that the bolt is sitting too far BACK in the breech, causing the rollback (chops that cant be avoided, eyes not being able to see paint, excessive blowback, as well as afew other issues)
the detents are way too small, they are causing double feeds and chops. new detents are also wearing out FAST due to the design of the bolt.
read around a bit before jumping on the bandwagon of a company putting out GREAT products all the time... just because of their name... Proto is a great company, dont get me wrong... but just because they ARE a great company doesnt mean their guns are the best, especially when you are comparing 2 of their guns to one another... a mid-range (high end operation) PMR or a low end (low end operation) SLG....

spool valve doesnt mean high end though...
My post was to say spools usually lean towards high end, but are not the end-all decision. Sorry for any misunderstanding.
mech and under $250 = low end... there is just no way around that...
Same was said for electros under $1000, then $800,... I don't want the OP to get the idea that the price is the determining factor, either.
the issues with the SLG is that the eyes are not seeing paint, there is a substantial amount of them that the bolt is sitting too far BACK in the breech, causing the rollback (chops that cant be avoided, eyes not being able to see paint, excessive blowback, as well as a few other issues)
All of which can be solved by using large bore paint - not an ideal solution, but when you do that, they go back to working.
the detents are way too small, they are causing double feeds and chops. new detents are also wearing out FAST due to the design of the bolt.
there seems to be good luck with some of the magnetic detents.
In any case, Jeeper, I retract my recommendation for the SLG. I believe that Proto is in the process of solving their issues, but the SLG is still in its 'growing pains', as many other markers experience. I'd expect it to be better down the road, but with the Rail at $250, there's simply no comparison.
The rail needs a few upgrades (back cap and trigger for starters), but there's nothing that inhibits the marker from being reliable, nor working immediately. At its now reduced price, I think you'll be hard pressed to find worthy competition for 'new'.
read around a bit before jumping on the bandwagon
Seems I wasn't as diligent as I usually am, thank you for proving more input for the OP and me

price OBVIOUSLY isnt a determining factor... ive had people play with my ion, and ask if they can play with it for the rest of the night, and put their main guns (so far its been a dm6, pm7, pm6, 2- 05egos, 06 ego, minion, 3- shockers)
and my ion cost a WHOLE lot less than any of those markers... even AFTER the upgrades...

Ever try a PMR?
They're running around the same price as those now, and it's a fine piece of equipment!

And the internals are the same as the Ion anyways so you get the same performance. You can get some camo colored stuff for the ion if you're into woodsball much. If you're into speedball much the ion is still good because all you gotta do is get a board and it rips with most anything.
