Nice Try, Man!

By Jacob Bantz

I am very new to paintball. First of all, my first experience playing. It was in August, just after school started again. My cousin had about ten people to come play on his Grandma's farm. We had worked it out that I would use some of his paint, and extra goggles, and one of his friends let me use a Spyder Shutter. It turned out that we only had four people, but I thought it was great. My first game, we played our version of speedball, just pretty much running around in a wide open field with barely any cover. My cousin shot me and came over.

"Nice try, man!" he said. I knew that I lasted like two seconds, but you have to get rid of those "getting shot" jitters. I made my first kill the next game, playing in the woods, but for the rest of the day I just got into the groove. We played all day long. I will devote myself, just as my cousin and his friend, to helping someone get started.

My complaint is the experienced players making me out to be stupid, just because I asked a couple questions in an internet chat room. I asked what a couple things on a marker were for, and all of a sudden I was the dumbest person in the chat room. I'm looking at getting a JT Excellerator 4.0, but they were down on that. I asked them what was wrong with it and all they could say is, "JT makes masks, not markers." [Wrong. JT USA markets the Excellerator 3.0 and the Excellerator 4.0, new markers that APG has been field testing.].

I'm sure that the Spyder Shutter and some of the other semi-autos got some of the same criticism, and look where those markers have gone--great sellers. Luckily, when I was thinking about not even buying a marker, a couple guys sent me instant messages on line. I received some experienced advice, and made a couple new friends. To my cousin and his friend, and the couple guys that I talked to online the other night...THANKS!!
