What do you prefer to use as a sniper with Tippmann? Why? What's your set up? Pics if you want to show us all!

I'm thinking that prettymuch any Tippmann is not going to make an excellent sniper weapon. They are much too loud, and take lots of aftermarket parts to make them consistent enough to have the kind of repeatable results you'll need with the ghillie.

I'll agree with Corrupted on this one - if I am going to be a 'sniper', I want a setup that is light, quiet and consistent, and Tippmanns just don't really fit that bill.
Of my two setups, I'd take the Hammer. It is a lot smaller and lighter than my US-5, which makes moving around and hiding a lot easier. Also, since you aren't firing nearly as much paint, people have a harder time spotting you.
In picture form:
I'll take this -

And yes, I'm just having fun playing with pictures. :P

Same here. It's probably not the best idea to carry a pump on a field full of semis, but I've managed to do it successfully before. You just have to be very very sneaky. Which is what you should be doing if you're a "sniper" anyway. I've taken on the ambush specialist role a few times myself, and every time, I've either taken a pump-gun or an Autococker. Even the loudest 'Cocker is a mouse fart in comparison to any Tippmann.

any trajectroy altering barrel would be nice. just about anything that can take a flatline or an apex would work, but a marker with a regulated air system and low operating pressure (quiteness) would be better.

Flatline or Apex for a sniper? No, as an ambush specialist you need accuracy, not distance. Shooting father than everyone else isn't going to help you if you can hit them on the first two shots. All it's going to do is warn your target that they are being shot at, and probably give away your position.
No, as a sniper almost all of your kills are going to be at 50ft and closer. That's the hardest part about donning the ghillie; waiting until you have the perfect shot before you actually take it. You don't pull that trigger until you know that you can hit them with less than three shots.

Niether no offense. Id use one of those as a primary / paint-laying machine though. But if I had a choice, it would be almost any kind of pump, or an autococker with a really good barrel kit.

There quiet, you can do anything with them, like half block, mini, migited, turtled, those are all cosmetic upgrades. They were also one of the first true semi-auto paintball guns, so you have a piece of paintball history. There are also a million different kinds of them, and hardly anyone has them. And there are many performance upgrades for them, but Uziel knows way more than I do. Also I personally really like the looks of them. Try playing woodsball against someone with one, you will only hear a slight woosh of it firing, its almost kinda creeapy...
Also the true autocockers arent made anymore. Which makes me extremely mad:pissed:. Now they're made from plastic, and over-priced. But you can still find good deals on eBay.
(Lets keep this on topic though)

I've got two. They are indeed impressive pieces of engineering. If I were to take on the "sniper" role, I would take one of those over my Tippmann every time.

To answer the autococker question, not everyone has one nor do does everyone love them.
Cockers were one of the first truly consistent closed bolt systems.
Consistency = accuracy.
I am an ex cocker user. At the end of the day I don't have time to deal with the intricacies of a cocker. Don't get me wrong, I do like them. But newer EP markers will give you all the benefits of a cocker based marker with none of the headaches.
Luckily I sold all mine before the bottom fell out of the cocker market.;)
Nowadays cockers are almost as scarce as mags.

These are all great, when snipe and i used to use an A-5... it was just way too loud (probably cause i have a flatline) but my custom was the best for this. running and gunning though. nothin better than the A-5

durr... attempting not to say it...
I'd go either A5 or X7 because they have the tac caps instead of regular hoppers. if you really wanna snipe...

mjr what it sounds to me is that you have no life and think you know more than anyone here just because you had a cocker. Before you insult someone because you did not agree with their opinion, think again and go suck on your thumb, because nobody asked you here what you thought about cockers just in case you didnt notice.

Actually, his opinion is very well respected. He has been around for awhile, and tends to know what he is talking about.
And in case you didn't notice who asked about cockers:

Yeah well even though he has been around does not mean he has the right to attack the guy for asking a simple question, whether he is new at this or anything does not give the right here to anyone to attack him at all. You because some of you might now something does not make you better in any way.
Also in case you did not notice he asked for an answer to his question not the oppinion of some jack *** who would be attacking him. Thats what i meant, and since you are defending him you should have understand the meaning of what i said.
Anyways this forum is to help people not to argue about some mindless people. For future reference in case someone doesnt like the opinion of someone else, please just keep comments to yourself.

Oh no, here we go again... :P
But I never realized how loud my US-5 was (basically a Tippy) until I fired my autococker. The motor on my hopper was louder than the gun itself. And aside from consistent, I think that quiet is one of the most important things a 'sniper' needs in a marker.

Agreed.
One of my friends who wanted to play went out and bought a full milsim setup(98 based) and when we were chronoing for the first time and he heard my mini right next to his marker he was .... a little upset.
Then he fired it a few times. Then he got really upset at how my marker had no kick.
When we seek accuracy and consistency a tippy can't compete with other markers on the field when we break performance down into measurable standards.
That being said, they are fun as all get out.
So they just aren't "sniper" markers. But they are one of my personal faves for wide ranging, open field paintball. Woodsball if you need to have a label.

I put that barrel on when I like to "Snipe". It may be long but I use it in wide open places. Total length is 22", its straight rifled making even cheap paint shoot straight and has an Apex tip for reaching out.

Use the tank as a regulator. der.
The tank regulator alone isn't nearly as consistent as a setup with a secondary regulator. Markers with two quality regulators can get +/- 1 fps over the chrono. You'll never manage that with just the tanks regulator.
Magmoormaster
02-13-2008, 02:03 PM
No, but you won't manage to get the same consistancy with unregulated CO2 than you would with HPA using just the tank reg.
