Do I need to get the macro line fittings to use the macro line from my df to my x chamber?

yup. without the fittings, its just some nylon hose.
its kind of like trying to play paintball without co2.

So where would I put the macroline fittings? On the df or the x chamber?

On both the drop and chamber. Macroline is just plastic hose, it doesn't screw in or anything. Macroline fittings are "push to connect", just cut the macro to the right size, screw the fittings in and seal them, and push the line in until it stops.
