View Full Version : A somewhat novel and damn seksi way to mount the (female) PPS Stabilizer

All credit for this idea goes to Telman2 over at the Underground Mod Shop forum:

And Mahgnillig over on A5OG.net:

Anyway;

Here's your ingredients list:

http://www.mahgnillig.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/palmer1.jpg

This next bit threw me off because it wasn't in the original directions on the UMS forum. I had to cannibalize this part from my hubby's remote to make it work, so I'm letting you all know this before you buy the parts so you won't be stuck:

http://www.mahgnillig.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/palmer2.jpg

You will also need the following tools:
- Teflon tape (very important!)
- Screwdriver
- Hex keys (wrenches)
- Various sized spanners (wrenches) or a couple of adjustable ones.

The first step is to take your Lapco offset apart and use the new screws to attach the weaver rail. The rail I chose was from Bass Pro Shops, and just happened to have the holes drilled in the perfect places. You may need to drill the holes if your rail doesn't have them in the right location:

http://www.mahgnillig.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/palmer3.jpg

Once the offset is put back together, it should look something like this. If you're fussy, you can get black screws or paint the heads, but in reality, the Stabilizer covers them up so you don't really need to:

http://www.mahgnillig.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/palmer4.jpg

Here is the offset mounted on the A-5. If you like, you can put some Blue Loctite on the threads just to make sure it doesn't move.

The next thing to do is to mount your Stabilizer to the 1" scope ring:

http://www.mahgnillig.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/palmer6.jpg

If your Stabilizer came with a 90* elbow in the bottom like mine did, you'll need to remove it:

http://www.mahgnillig.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/palmer7.jpg

Wrap a couple of turns of Teflon tape around one end of the 5" braided line and screw it into the Stabilizer:

http://www.mahgnillig.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/palmer8.jpg

Next, take your ASA adapter and screw the 90* elbow into the bottom of it. Teflon tape is required here:

http://www.mahgnillig.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/palmer9.jpg

Screw the 45* elbow into the 90* elbow. Don't screw these down too tightly to start off with, as you'll need a little play to turn the elbows in order to get the angles right when you connect the hose.

http://www.mahgnillig.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/palmer10.jpg

Mount your Stabilizer to the scope mount:

http://www.mahgnillig.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/palmer11.jpg

Screw the braided gas line into the 45* elbow using more Teflon tape. Screw the tombstone into the ASA adapter. Now here comes the tricky bit... you have to bend and twist the gas line until you can get the tombstone to go into the marker. If it helps, remove the Stabilizer from the scope mount and use it to help twist the line. You will need to tighten your fittings here in order to get them at the correct angle. Don't be discouraged if you have a hard time with this... I had to unscrew a couple of my connections and start over before I got it to fit. You should be able to get the gas line to bend so that it doesn't interfere with the trigger or with the manual Cyclone advance.

http://www.mahgnillig.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/palmer12.jpg

All done! Now air it up and check for leaks. If you can hear a leak but you're not sure exactly where it's coming from, a few drops of soapy water will help... the soap will bubble wildly as soon as it hits the leak. If you find a leak, disconnect the air and unscrew the offending fixing, add some more Teflon tape and try again.

This is what it looks like from the top:

HOLY CRAP THAT'S NICE!

I'd totally want to do that... but it's a bit out of my price range.

Especially since I'd have to get a remote line, which means a new harness that has a pocket for the tank. And as much as I'd like, a Stab is just too expensive for me. I just blew 300 bucks on a Mini, but I'll bookmark this just in case.

Really nice instructions and pics, btw.

just one question, what is the advantage of this? i mean it looks really cool and unique but whats the point when you can get a male mount and save alot of money? not criticizing just asking

Its just personal preference. This is sort of like having an "air through" stock, w/o the stock, so it *should* be more ergonomic for running a remote coil. It also makes it VERY easy to check on the pressure you are running during a game. Other then that, it just looks cool and it's different from the "bolt on & play" guys.

It doesn't look cool.

It's FREAKING cool!

It's... TIPPMANN!

Old, but still cool. The only real downside to it is that you're REQUIRED to use a remote. The only bottle you'd get on there would be a 12 gram adapter.

Anyway, why did you not suggest using Macro line? Steel braided line makes it that much harder to get everything in place? I mean, since the stab gets rid of all the negative effects of CO2, with the exception of the decrease in temperature from higher rates of fire, you should not have a problem with the macro line craking/failing because of liquid CO2. Yes, it can happen, but it can just be replaced.

probably cause corrupted wouldnt stand for such non sense

Hey guys, what's the deal with the macro line? What does it do? Is it any better then a regular steel braided line that comes with the gun? They're only about 10$ on ebay so if they're better i might just order one..

No, he copied and pasted from here. (http://www.a5og.net/5-mods-upgrades/2871-how-mount-stabilizer-behind-cyclone.html#post30661)

It performs the exact same function as steel braided line. Obviously, it's not as durable, but it's designed to operate at a minimum of 1200psi, and burst at probably twice that. The major drawback is that it is more susceptible to breaking or tearing when compared to steel braided line. The major advantage is that with the fittings you need to connect it to your marker, you can use the push-lock system to remove it when you need to take your marker apart.

you can cut and trim macroline to perfect fit. it weighs less and looks better imo, and can be replaced easier. most professionals use this. downsides are that it doesnt like liquid co2, as it will crack.

Corrupted355
01-13-2008, 06:02 PM
Yeah, it can take the pressure of holding liquid CO2, but the thermal gradient is too much for it to handle, and it usually cracks, which then empties your tank. Don't put macroline in a situation where it will come in contact with liquid CO2. Best if used on the other side of a regulator.

Yea i only use HPA it's much easier and cheaper.
Cool to know about the macroline, was just on ebay and saw this..

says the drop forward will only fit certain markers, anybody know if it'll fit a 98C?
And anybody know if that is a good drop forward?

CMI makes good stuff. I've got one of their remotes and one of their regulators, and I'm happy with both. I don't think you need the gauge, though, unless you plan on getting an adjustable air system. However, you have a standard bottomline on your 98, so it will at least fit on your gun.
