View Full Version : Flatlines and the differences......

So I have a Tippmann 98 custom with a 16 inch empire twister barrel foldable stock, sight rail, and expansion chamber.
I loved my gun it worked great until the empire twister started to show signs of crapping out. The rifleing I believe has worn out on it or something else has gone wrong. I think it was because this was my first gun and I used a rubber tipped pull through barrel cleaner which probaly destroyed the rifleing. ( I making a guess on that)
Either way I have the money to buy a new gun and I want to have either a A-5 with flatline, X-7 With Flatline, or should I just buy a flatline for my current tippmann 98 custom.
So the question is which gun of the three has the best flatline. From the basic 98 with its flatline too the A-5 with its cylinder flatline, too the X-7 with it's awkward looking flatline barrel.
That is if there is any difference at all.
So any help would be appreciated thank you.

ive seen all of them on the field and they all perform well, you just might want to know that the x7 flatline is really picky on paintballs. also ive heard a lot of good things about apex barrels. theyre cheaper and i hear they shoot farther plus you can curve the ball, and they are not too picky on paint.

I would say to go with the Apex. I just played a game defending yesturday with an Apex tipped 21" CMI Straight Rifled barrel on a nearly stock 98C. It allow me to reach out and "snipe" the opposing team before I was in their range. At the distance of 200'-250' I was getting about 1' grouping (good paint, nelsplat). I was using the setting 4 (flat line effect). Its not nearly as picky on paint either. I've used the flatline on the 98C but always had problems with tuning it.

If I were you I would just get another twister. I have a 14 on my 98 and it is awesome. My buddy liked it so much he bought a 16 for his 98. I mainly use my a5 with a broomstick or J&J, but my buddy uses his twister all the time. He has extremely more accuracy over the flatlines and really good range. I just feel the flatlines are over rated and most of the guys I play with that were using flatlines when they first came out have ditched them and found something with more accuracy, and almost any other barrel is an improvement from the flatty.

Did not even notice the length, it was an open field. With the effective range I was getting from that barrel setup, I could shoot them before they could even get a shot at me.

I know I find a 10" barrel long on my US-5, I couldn't imagine adding another 11 inches to it. Then again, we play in a lot of brush, it is real easy to get a tangled barrel.

I suppose with a barrel that long, it's gotta be a lot easier to barrel tag folks. The surrender rule for you has got to be like thirty feet instead of ten.

Every now and then people get barrel tagged but we don't have a surrender rule except: If you ask for surrender, expect them to try and shoot you.
When I'm not using the 22" apex equipped barrel, I'm using my 2.5" dishka equipped barrel.

So you're either able to hit the people on the other side of the field or make them def, depending on what barrel you've got...

And I'll usually have a under barrel grenade/rocket launcher under the 2.5" dishka equipped barrel. The Dishka is to make the new players take cover while your team advances.
