I just bought a used a5 and the previous owner had a proseal powertube and bolt installed. it might just be that my chorono is messed up but i cant get the gun to shoot over 260 fps. can any1 guess y this is? i am using compressed air in the gun with a high pressure regulator.

why does it have to go any higher? most fields won't let you play if its over 280 anyway. it could be that you need a new power spring. thats what was wrong with my 98 custom

This is a typical problem for A-5s', especially those which use the Flatline barrel (but not always). The easiest and cheapest way to get this fixed is to buy a rear drive spring kit. I picked up a Trinity Spring kit for $7.99 on e-bay. Comes with 5 different levels of spring tension, with each spring color coded to how stiff it is. The stiffer the spring, the higher the FPS you will get out of it.
I couldn’t shoot over 245FPS on my A-5. I got that kit and put the stiffest spring in. Without changing ANYTHING else the marker started shooting so fast the balls were curving all over. I later found that to be 340FPS!
I ended up putting in the "weakest" spring of the kit in (which is still stronger then the stock spring), and I was able to hit 300FPS with ease, simply by adjusting the FVA. I didn't even need to max it out either!
I highly suggest trying this fix before doing anything else. It's by far the easiest and cheapest.

Or you could look into getting the new style valve. But something to consider first: have you (or the previous owner) been storing the gun cocked? If so, the main spring could be weakened and would cause a drop in velocity. I'm not fond of spring kits (no idea why), so I would make sure this wasn't the issue first.

Ummm... if that IS the issue, then the only solution would be to change the spring! So he would end up getting that spring kit ANYWAY. Really, the only thing this adds to the equation is to inform the OP that he shouldn't store his marker while it's still cocked.
Either way, the spring kit is the solution.

that sounds reasonable to me. I just got the gun today and i was out shooting it with my chrono to dial the fps in. thanks guys

My point is that he may be able to replace the stock spring and not have to deal with a spring kit.
Either way, the spring kit is one solution.
Fixed.

Hey guys. I actually just purchased an A5. Is this problem something that rarely happens? Or is it something I should really be aware of?

Pretty rare. You see it maybe one in a hundred guns, and then only if that hundredth gun is abused beyond reason or is used without the proper knowledge of how to use it. Three Tippmanns have graced my ownership, and I've operated at least twenty different A-5's alone for a semi-extended period. I've never had that problem. The only time I was ever not able to get an A-5 over 250 fps was when I was using the incredibly short End Game Snub Nose barrel. The X-7 hopper literally sticks out father than this barrel, and the velocity returned when a longer barrel was installed.

Actually, I bought my marker brand new and it came with said problem. Trust me, I'm the last person who would "abuse" their marker, or who is lacking knowledge on how to properly operate and store it. Yes, abuse can make the spring fail, however, it's obvious that this is a factory defect in some cases.
As for replacing the stock spring with another one... how much is he going to save by doing so VS getting an 8 dollar spring kit, which would also give him 4 more springs just in case? 2 to 3 dollars at most? Less after shipping is applied. No, thats not a logical solution in my book.
Oh and I should mention that since my stock spring was bad from the factory, his replacement stock spring might be bad as well. No one has said anything about getting a bad Trinity kit.

It is if you've got to order a spring kit online and your local store has Tippmann parts in stock. In any case, I wasn't calling your idea a bad one, just not the only one. The idea of these forums is to give information to those who ask it, and the opinion of one man, even one as well versed in A-5 mechanics as you, is not always going to be the only way to solve a problem. Options, my friend.

Word, I just like to give reasons for my opinions.

i was having problems kinda like that except it was with my velocity, i would put a new c02 tank on i would adjust the velocity, play about half a round and it would be just lobbing the balls across the field and no matter how high you adjusted the velocity it would still do that. i found an air leak around the tombstone. so i think that might be the problem.
if i were you i would check for that bcz alot of ppl i know have had that same problem, if it is happening i would recommend wrapping it up with a little Teflon tape
