View Full Version : Velocity Screw Issue on 98c

So, to begin with, I have a completely stock 98c. I don't play PB but every few months so I don't know all the ins and outs of the gun.

After the last time I played, I field stripped my gun as usual to clean and oil it. I have always followed the manual's instructions for field stripping to the letter so as I don't have any issues. However, when I tried turning the velocity screw down until it stops as the manual instructs, the screw did not stop turning. I probably spent 5 minutes trying to turn the velocity down to where it would stop. It never did.

Well, after a bit I gave up with that and cleaned my marker as usual. Then, I took it back outside in order to readjust the velocity back to a normal level. As it turned out, the velocity on the gun hadn't changed at all since I last had played. So is the velocity screw stripped? I can see how turning the screw around and around for 5 minutes might have accomplished this, but it seems to me that the screw should have stopped turning like it has every other time that I've field stripped my 98c.

--One more thing I forgot to mention-- While the marker was disassembled I looked to see if there was anything wrong with the velocity screw but I didn't notice anything unusual.

Any help on my problem would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

sounds like you striped it

The velocity screw is fine. It's the power tube you stripped. The screw is metal, but the 'tube is plastic. Tippmannparts.com will have the powertube, but you should be able to find one at any local proshop worth their salt.

Is there a replacement power tube that is better than the original Tippmann? A metal one perhaps? Any suggestions on which ones I could get instead?

YES! replace the powertube with a metal powertube of your choice, JCS makes great powertubes, i personally have the Gold one installed, although if your planning on uprgrading to a cyclone feed/RT/dont want an RVA then get the Blue powertube from JCS.

While the aluminum power tubes will give you greater durability, they are probably going to make the gun louder, and you're not going to see any noticable performance increase.

Is there a downside to getting the Power Tube with the features for the RT and/or cyclone? I would like to upgrade to a RT and cyclone one day, but it wouldn't be in the near future.

Thanks for all your help thus far!

I can't think of anyway a metal powertube could mess with an RT or cyclone, like corrupt said it'll just be a lil louder and you won't notice much performance difference

Nope, no downside. That "feature" is actually just a little accessory hole in the side. Until it's being used, it's blocked off with a screw, so no harm done.
