Plain old water always worked best for me, just make sure you dry it with something really soft. Chamois clothes work well.

Tap water. To get the porting cleaned, I stick my finger in the barrel and let the other end fill up, which forces the water out the porting. I then change ends and repeat. I dry the inside with a clean battle swab, then the outside with an old clean t-shirt. Some guys finish with a rubdown of rubbing alcohol, but I wonder if that only applies to certain barrels - I haven't seen the need with my pepperstickz.
